History Channel Brings Swamp Beast To Life With New Series

History is hoping viewers are ready for some beasts of the Southern wild because they are getting into the monster business with a new series this Monday.

Focusing on a legendary cryptid that has supposedly tormented the deep south for generations, "Cryptid: The Swamp Beast" debuts Feb. 24, at 10 p.m. and combine eyewitness accounts, expert talking heads and dramatizations while a team pursues the mysterious creature.

Whether it is the Cajun voodoo creature known as the Rougarou a Bigfoot-esque Skunk Ape or something entirely different, History is saying a rash of cattle mutilations and pet disappearances suggest a new kind of predator is invading human territory.

According to a press release, the series follows an animal control business that responds to calls and sightings of the creature, as well as a deputy sheriff who thinks the cryptid might actually be a "twisted individual" living in the swamp. "As the weeks pass, the sightings intensify and even the most skeptical people in town begin to wonder if its darkest legends, and their worst fears, have in fact come to life."

Of course this isn't History's first foray into swamplands. The network is also behind "Swamp People" and "The Legend of Shelby the Swamp Man." Though this is the first time they've explored Southern culture on the cryptids.

Are you ready to drink up this monster mash on Monday? Or are you fatigued on fearsome folklore?
