'Dead Island' game trailer cinematic, tragic, amazing

I'm one of those folks who can't get enough of zombies. Zombie comics, movies, video games - I have a lifelong love for the walking dead.

Still, as much as I enjoy the clever kills and blood-splatter action we've been treated to in Left 4 Dead 2 and Survival of the Dead, the tragedy and terror of being a human attempting to survive amongst expired humans is often forgotten amongst all the killing and skin-eating (ain't that always the way? You get nuts with the skin-eating).

But that's not the case with the announcement trailer for Dead Island, a zombie shooter game coming out next December. Telling a brief, tragic story in rewind about a young family's vacation-gone-horribly wrong, the trailer injects a very real emotion into the genre and is nothing short of beautiful and gut-wrenching. It is simply on par with a really great movie trailer. Watch it and be awed by what this medium continues to deliver. (via IGN)

Actually it's not a "shooter" per se. The makers of the game didn't just want another Left 4 Dead. They say the focus (and it can be seen in the trailer) is on melee combat. You have to rely on things you find laying around, much like you would in real life. No unlimited ammo guns here, just raw survival horror. I'm praying it lives up to the trailer.
