First look at Michonne of 'Walking Dead'

Now this is just badass. Entertainment Weekly has unveiled a first look at Michonne, the katana-wielding fan favorite from The Walking Dead comic, who was unofficially introduced in the AMC show's Season Two finale.

Played by Danai Gurira, the essence of Michonne's character will remain intact, says comic creator (and exec-producer on the show) Robert Kirkman. But Kirkman tells EW "there will be little tweaks and differences here and there" in Michonne's TV character.

"We saw that her introduction is slightly different from how it was in the comic, and her interaction with Andrea is really going to be a really cool addition to the character that I think will get television viewers up to speed, and they’ll get to know her a lot faster than comic book readers did," he adds.

Kirkman also mentions that her physicality and spark makes Gurira perfect for the role. In other Walking Dead news, Kirkman told EW that the prison turned zombie-proof HQ of Season Three - also teased in the S2 finale - is "really creepy, really moody and it’s just gonna be really awesome."

And in an AMC behind-the-scenes video of Season Three (embedded below), Andrew Lincoln promises a "darker, harder, faster, deeper" season.

On the comics front, to celebrate issue #100 - hitting stands July 11 - Image Comics and Kirkman's Skybound imprint will be holding a zombie obstacle course during San Diego Comic Con. Called The Walking Dead Escape, Kirkman says, "We are literally transforming Petco Park into the early days of society’s collapse and San Diego is just the first city to fall." Participants will receive a special edition of issue #100 and can register to run as a Survivor (that has to climb, crawl, hide and slide their way to safety), be a Walker or just act as a spectator.
