Zombies shambling into an 'Archie' film? Not so fast

Your favorite All-American teen/ginger, Archie Andrews is coming soon(ish) to a theatre new you and he’s bringing the whole gang; Betty, Veronica, Jughead and some friendly, neighborhood zombies.

Warner-Brothers have officially sealed the deal on the flick, with Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) in the director's chair and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Glee, the upcoming Carrie remake) penning it. According to Deadline.com, the script is said to be a “high school comedy based on the original line of Archie Comics set in present-day Riverdale.”

Now the Internet was all a-buzz thinking zombies were going to be involved in the movie because screenwriter Aguirre-Sacasa also signed on to write an updated version of the Archie comics entitled Afterlife with Archie, which takes place in suburban New York during the zombie apocalypse. The comic itself sounds intensely intriguing, but he buried those speculations yesterday in an interview with Hero Complex.

If Hollywood had been looking for a way to re-animate the Archie franchise, especially after the 1990 live action nightmare, zombies are definitely the way to go. While the idea may sound like it should take place in Raccoon City and not idyllic Riverdale, the morbid curiosity of seeing The Archies zombified and singing “Sugar, Sugar,” had us pulling for it to be true.

On the upside, we'll have the comics to look forward to this October.
