Javier Bardem Eyed to Play 'Blackbeard' in New 'Pan' Film

J.M. Barrie's "Peter Pan" is getting yet another big screen adaptation and it looks like Warner Bros have their eye on Javier Bardem for the leading villain role.

According to Deadline, the script written by Jason Fuchs. This version of the classic is an origin story, with an orphaned Peter being whisked off to Neverland, where he becomes a savior to the native inhabitants and leads the rebellion against the evil pirates. Bardem has allegedly been approached and offered the role of Captain Blackbeard.

No stranger to villainy, Bardem won his Oscar in 2007 for his portrayal of a serial killer in "No Country For Old Men." He also played the villain in both "Skyfall" and Ridley Scott's "The Counselor."

Greg Berlanti is set to produce, with Sarah Schechter taking on the overseer duties for Warner Bros. At the moment it looks like Joe Wright ("Atonement," "Hannah") is in talks to take the directors chair.
