According to a press release today, "In an uncertain world, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his band of survivors must not only fight the dead, but also face a whole new fear: the living."

If that doesn't set the scene for the tale of two zombified cities in the third season of The Walking Dead, what does?

To highlight the conflict, AMC released the poster art for The Walking Dead Season 3, debuting Sunday, Oct. 14 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. A 16-episode season, the series will air in two-parts with the first eight hours kicking off October 14 and returning February 2013 with the final eight episodes.

In the image, Rick is taking aim on top of a prison bus (backed by the walls of the penitentiary his group takes refuge within), but it is at a walker or at a living human? What do you think of the image, and are you excited to see our unmerry band of survivors clash with another group?

Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, The Walking Dead stars Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, Norman Reedus, Chandler Riggs, Lauren Cohan, Scott Wilson, IronE Singleton, Melissa McBride, David Morrissey and Danai Gurira. The series is executive produced by Glen Mazzara, Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert with Greg Nicotero as co-executive producer.
