Is McFarlane prepping a new 'Spawn' movie?

Ever since we survived the disaster that was the Spawn live adaptation back in 1997, there has been
talks of a sequel, then a reboot. At one point, there was even talk that Leonardo DiCaprio was
attached to play a detective investigating all of Spawn’s activities -- kind of like Martin Soap from The
Punisher.

Well, since it’s been quiet for a little too long, MTV Geek! spoke with Todd McFarlane, creator of the "dead soldier resurrected as a demon/hero," and asked about the status on a potential sequel

"I continue writing pages here and there," says McFarlane. "I have a guy waiting in the sidelines, an Academy Award-winning actor. Every three weeks he’s on the phone going, 'Todd, where’s the script? Todd, where’s the script?' I can’t say who it is. He came out to the office. He gave me his pitch, and I gave him mine. The pitch I gave was that we could do 10 of these for the next 10 years and he wouldn't have to be 22 for the rest of his life."

So who could this mystery man be? Hopefully, this wizard behind the curtain person helps the movie get on the fast track. Spawn is a great character with a tragic background and dark, gritty story to back it up -- with plenty of action and violence. With how properly comic properties are being treated nowadays, a good Spawn film could be made. McFarlane also dropped some info on a new animated series in the works.
