Move over vampires, zombies and ghouls; for now is the time of the werewolf. SyFy has acquired the first season of "Bitten," a scripted Canadian series from top indie studio, Entertainment One (eOne).

The show is based off of Kelley Armstrong's New York Times best-selling "Women of the Otherworld" series and stars Laura Vandervoort ("Smallville") as Elena Michaels; the only female lycanthrope in existence.

After abandoning her Pack and her past, Elena heads to Toronto to start a new life. A life where she can work as a photographer, have a normal boyfriend, and keep her unwanted werewolf side a secret. That is until bodies begin piling up in her ancestral home of Stonehaven and she is asked to return and protect her Pack.

Some of the head honchos over at SyFy had nothing but rave reviews for their new show in a press-release:

"Bitten is a fantastic blend of supernatural action, intense thrills, smouldering drama and a tortured love story that artfully adapts characters beloved for more than a decade by millions of readers around the world,” said Chris Regina, Senior Vice President, Programming, Syfy. “It’s an excellent complement to our roster of programming and we cannot wait to share Elena, her Pack and their stories with the Syfy audience."

"Our partners at No Equal Entertainment, Hoodwink Entertainment, and eOne have brought to life a sexy and suspenseful new series and we are delighted Syfy has found it equally as compelling for their audience,” said Corrie Coe, Senior Vice-President, Independent Production, Bell Media. “With a strong female lead at its core, we know audiences on both sides of the border will be rabid followers of Bitten."

Commented Carrie Stein, eOne Television, EVP, Global Production, “The eOne team responded enthusiastically to Bitten because it’s a strong genre piece with a unique premise – the first female werewolf in a pack of men! It’s a sexy, action-packed drama with a love triangle at the center – all very appealing to the global audience!”

Joining Vandervoort will be Greg Byrk ("A History of Violence") as Jeremy Danvers, the Pack "Alpha," Greyston Holt ("Alcatraz") as Clayton Danvers, Elena's ex-boyfriend and fellow werewolf, and Paul Greene ("The Client List") as her unsuspecting human boyfriend.

The first season consists of 13 one-hour episodes, and will premiere on SyFy in 2014.
