'Conjuring' Spin Off 'Annabelle' Gets Release Date

Warren with the real Annabelle doll
If you have a pediophobia, the fear of dolls (and yes, I had to look it up) then Variety is reporting that October 3 is going to be a terrifying day at the movies for you. That's when "Annabelle," the spinoff to last year's "The Conjuring," hits theaters.

The film is based around the creepy doll that had a subplot in "The Conjuring," and captivated audiences enough that New Line cinemas wanted to give her her own adventure. Although the doll actually exists, and is supposedly the cause of a lot of ugly hauntings researched by real-life investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, the film won't be focusing on the ghosthunting couple. Instead it is likely to revolve around the college students who owned the supposedly demon-possessed doll in the 1970s

However, plot details are still pretty scarce, but we reported exclusively that the script for the movie did receive Lorraine Warren's blessing. Directed by John Leonetti, the cinematographer on “The Conjuring,” the film will star Annabelle Wallis,, Ward Horton and Alfre Woodard. But even though the Warrens (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) might sit this one out -- aside from a cameo, I'd guess -- the duo will be back in a "Conjuring" sequel in 2015.
