The thought of being abducted by little gray (or green or purple) creatures from outer space and experimented on, ranks up there on the 'top fears' list for me. Stories of this actually happening have been around for years but one of the first and most compelling stories of alien abduction harkens back to exactly 54 years ago.
On September 19, 1961, a married couple from New Hampshire named Betty and Barney Hill claimed they were abducted by aliens, taken aboard a UFO, "studied," and then released. Authorities learned of their abduction after they were hypnotized. Their story has been told numerous times but now, 54 years later, a film based on their infamous tale is finally heading to the big screen in Captured.
Variety is reporting that Gotham/Principal, producers of Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, will team up with Bryce Zabel and Jackie Zabel via their Stellar Prods. to produce Captured. Zabel will also pen the script that's based on Stanton Friedman and Kathleen Marden's 2007 non-fiction book “Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience: The True Story of the World’s First Documented Alien Abduction."
According to one of the film's producers, Eric Robinson, “Captured is a true story that explores the birth of modern UFO lore through the eyes of the first Americans to report that they were kidnapped by aliens. This is an exciting story that is as intriguing, timely and ripe for adaptation today as it was 54 years ago when this incident occurred.”
No word on casting or when we can expect to see Captured, but we'll keep you posted.
