Karen Gillan Discusses Her Big 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Fight Scene

It sounds like there will be some serious girl power in Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" and this is coming straight from Nebula's mouth. "Doctor Who"'s Karen Gillan recently sat down with MTV at SXSW and expressed her excitement about the film. She mentioned that she finds her character, Nebula, hilarious plus revealed an intense and integral fight sequence with Gamora (Zoe Saldana). But despite being a "girl fight"..."It's not that girlie!" Gillan said she required two months of rehearsals to train because she was "like spaghetti" when she started filming.

'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Trailer Debuts With Galactic Chris Pratt Action

It only premiered on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" moments ago, but the trailer for the newest Marvel Comics (and Disney) super hero flick is already ruling the galaxy. "Guardians Of The Galaxy" is part of Phase 2 of the Marvel cinematic universe, and is their first big space movie ("Thor" doesn't count, sorry). But if the following two and a half minutes is any indication, they are aiming for the stars come August 1, when its release marks the final Phase 2 entry until next year's "Age of Ultron" Avengers sequel.

With a little humor to open it up, we meet Chris Pratt's Peter "Star-Lord" Quill and Djimon Hounsou's Korath, then -- in a usual suspects lineup -- John C. Reilly's Rhomann Dey introduces Drax (Dave Batista), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel). These are your space misfit heroes. Then a series of quick cuts shows a lot of action but also the humor we might expect from director James Gunn ("Slither"). There is a lot of familiar shots from last year's comic-con footage, and we get more from Blue Swede's "Hooked on a Feeling."

There are also brief glimpses of baddies The Collector (Benicio Del Toro) and Nebula (Karen Gillan). An anticipated character which remains unseen is Michael Rooker as Yondu (who was leader of the original "Guardians" in the comic books before Quill came along).

This looks like heckuva lot of fun, and makes me pretty stoked to see the Marvel-verse of the stars.

We have to wait until Marvel Entertainment's full trailer for the James Gunn-directed "Guardians of the Galaxy" debuts tonight on Jimmy Kimmel Live but at least we can grab a 19-second peek right now. We get a decent look at Chris Pratt as "Peter Quill" aka "Star-Lord," Zoe Saldana as "Gamora," Dave Bautista as "Drax the Destroyer," Vin Diesel as "Groot," and most notably, Karen Gillan as "Nebula." Sadly, we didn't hear much from Bradley Cooper as "Rocket Raccoon."

Teaser Trailer For Horror Film 'Oculus'

A new teaser trailer for the Mike Flanagan-directed horror film, "Oculus" has just been released by Relativity Media, WWE Studios and Blumhouse Productions. Do you dare take a look? The film stars Karen Gillan (Amelia Pond from "Doctor Who"), Brenton Thwaites (Prince Phillip in "Maleficent"), and Katee Sackhoff ("Battlestar Galactica") and was co-written by Flanagan and Jeff Howard. "Oculus" is scheduled for release on April 11.

Ten years ago, tragedy struck the Russell family, leaving the lives of teenage siblings Tim and Kaylie forever changed when Tim was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents. Now in his 20s, Tim is newly released from protective custody and only wants to move on with his life; but Kaylie, still haunted by that fateful night, is convinced her parents’ deaths were caused by something else altogether: a malevolent supernatural force­­ unleashed through the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror in their childhood home. Determined to prove Tim’s innocence, Kaylie tracks down the mirror, only to learn similar deaths have befallen previous owners over the past century. 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Line Up For Usual Suspects Shot

Avengers Guardians Assemble! Marvel/Disney has started the new year by unveiling the lineup for its August 1 cosmic super hero flick "Guardians of the Galaxy." And it looks good. Granted, everything we've been hearing about the space adventures so far has been pretty great -- with one insider going so far as to say Chris Pratt aka Peter Quill will be an A-lister after it.

This is the first official pic to be released of "Guardians" and it features a shot included in last summer's comic-con footage (and yes, you can see a low-res version of that footage, if you'd like). In the shot, from left, we see Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Pratt as Quill, Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), wrestler Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and Vin Diesel as Groot. Not shown is Karen Gillan as Nebula, Michael Rooker as Yondu or Benicio Del Toro as The Collector (although we have seen him somewhere, if you'd like to peruse a spoiler). But we still have a long wait before the movie comes out, so there's plenty of time for those reveals.

However, if you'd like to actually know what the movie is about and you're not already a GotG fan, Disney has complie with the following official synopsis:

"An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel’s 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe. 'Doctor Who' companion Karen Gillan to join 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

As if the cast of Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy couldn’t get cooler, one of our favorite Doctor
Who alums has just joined the cast.

Joining Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Glenn Close and many others, Amy Pond herself, Karen Gillan, is jumping on board to play the film’s lead female villain. She’ll be joining already cast male villains, Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead) and Lee Pace (The Hobbit Trilogy).

This delicious tidbit of news is thanks to an exclusive over at The Hollywood Reporter who reported that details of her evil character have not yet been revealed.

Directed by James Gunn (Slither, Super), the space adventure based on the Marvel comic of the same name, is scheduled to start its U.K. shoot in late-June with an Aug. 1, 2014 release date.

Karen Gillan becomes zombie companion for 'Nerdist' makeup

Last Saturday’s episode of BBC America’s The Nerdist was just plain awesome. Guests included creator of The Walking Dead Robert Kirkman and birthday boy Michael Rooker. They played Walking Dead Mad Libs, discussed the show and comic books, joked around ...it was magical.

Then there were the mock ads starring the beauty who played Doctor’s former companion Amy Pond. Karen Gillan is a stunning woman and even as a zombie, she wants to look her best. She promoted the new cosmetics line "z’Ombeal" which includes face make-up to give you that lovely LIVE look your skin once had, and hair care to give you that shine and keep it from falling out. The ads were hilarious and had her feasting on many of her handlers. You can see her skin care ad here.

It’s nice to know that we gals can still look our best during the zombie apocalypse!

'Doctor Who': 'Dinosaurs on a Spaceship'

In a classic Doctor Who move, executive producer Steven Moffat is bringing dinosaurs aboard a spaceship.

According to a press release from BBC America, the season's second episode will have the 11th Doctor (Matt Smith) attempting to save an unmanned spaceship hurtling towards "certain destruction" with a cargo of dinos.

"By his side a ragtag gang of adventurers; a big game hunter, an Egyptian Queen and a surprised member of the Pond family," says the press release. "But little does the Doctor know there is someone else onboard who will stop at nothing to keep hold of his precious, prehistoric cargo."

Smith says his first reaction to the episodes was, "Steven you are a genius! It’s Doctor Who in a nutshell. I have always wanted to do a dinosaur episode ... So I was very pleased to get the chance. And the Director Saul (Metzstein) has done a fantastic job, with David Bradley playing a cracking villain. I think it is such a fun episode with a wonderfully crafted script by Chris Chibnall."

Smith also revealed that he would be riding a dino and that it's "more painful than you can imagine."

"I had to wear padded trousers! Dinosaurs are a lot lumpier than horses, so it was a painful couple of hours, a laugh though and definitely worth it as it’s going to look great."

As for his companion Amy Pond, actress Karen Gillan called the episode a "crazy filming adventures."

"With all the adventures that I have been on through-out the show that was perhaps the most surreal! There was a lot of running from things we couldn’t see, which is always fun, but a couple of the cast got to ride a dinosaur….."

This episode just sounds (and looks, based on the embed below) wicked cool, and would only be cooler if The Doctor uttered the line, "get these motherf---in' dinos off this motherf---in' spaceship,"

"Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" premieres on BBC AMERICA this Saturday, September 8, 9:00pm ET as part of Supernatural Saturday.
