The Walking Dead renewed for Season 9, but without Scott Gimple as showrunner

AMC has announced that The Walking Dead will be back for a ninth season next fall, but without Scott Gimple returning as showrunner.

Instead, Gimple will be heading up the chain as Chief Content Officer overseeing TWD as well as Fear The Walking Dead. Although Gimple injected energy into the show with Season 4, following Glen Mazzara's departure, but has since raised the ire of fans and critics. Moving him to a different position keeps him in the TWD family but will prevent him from overseeing the day-to-day on the show.

Meanwhile, Angela Kang, will take over as showrunner for the October 2018 season. Kang has served on the zombie show as a writer and co-executive producer on the post-apocalyptic drama since 2011, and was behind episodes "Still," and "Coda."

But Gimple's departure comes on the heels of the controversial death of Chandler Rigg's Carl Grimes, which was set up in the Dec. 10 midseason premiere, and will play out Feb. 25 when the show returns for the back-half of Season 8.

Meanwhile, Riggs and Gimple aren't the only folks leaving the main show: Lennie James, who plays Morgan, is departing the show to  join Fear the Walking Dead.

Comic-Con Official Season 7 Trailer for 'The Walking Dead'

As per tradition, here is the first official Comic-Con trailer for the upcoming season of The Walking Dead and, needless to say, it's goosebumps-inducing. Aren't they always? I can type something about new characters, which character will meet Lucille, etc., but I know you just want to check out the intense action.

The seventh season premieres on October 23.

Robert Kirkman apologizes for The Walking Dead finale

If you felt a little ripped off by the Season 6 finale of The Walking Dead -- you know, the one where they were building to the introduction of Negan, and the death of a major character, but cut to credits without showing Who. The. Hell. Died! -- well, creator Robert Kirkman has heard your cries.

As reported by Blastr, Kirkman addresses the situation in the letters page of Issue #154 of the comic. He apologizes for dicking fans around -- sort of. He also says the finale cliffhanger leading to next fall's Season 7 premiere was a success, and basically pulled what Star Trek: The Next Generation did every season.

Someone with a better knowledge of Star Trek should fact check that one, because I'm not quite certain I buy it.

'The Walking Dead' Most Talked About Scene: 'JSS'

Obviously there are spoilers in here so if you missed last night's The Walking Dead please step away. Go on. I'll wait.

Okay, season six's second episode started off with Enid's heartbreaking backstory and her reminding herself to 'just survive somehow.' Then it got a little slow with Carol and the gals talking about ham and paprika and how smoking is bad for you...well it turns out, it really IS pretty bad for you. The wolves invasion arrived and for 45 minutes, Carol's casserole baked away as Alexandria was brutally attacked.

"JSS" has become a fan favorite already and in the scene AMC chose at the 'most talked about,' Jessie is attacked by a female wolf in her really nice kitchen where she gives haircuts. After a failed attempt at using her gun and being temporarily knocked out, she grabs her scissors and goes all mama bear on this palazzo pants-wearing psycho. As a parent, I may have let out a very loud, "YES!" when she gave that last thrust into the invader as her older son looks on. As if he didn't want that haircut before he witnessed this? Hopefully he now has a new found respect for his mother.

Season Six Trailer for 'The Walking Dead' Debuts at Comic-Con

"They're coming..." on October 11 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC. The official four minute trailer for The Walking Dead's sixth season premiered today at San Diego Comic-Con and if you haven't seen the awesomeness already, we have it here.

It looks like Rick is to be feared as much as the walkers and the fact that Morgan has been out there since the beginning, has earned him mad trust in Alexandria. Check it out and let us know what you think and then mark your calendars for the super-sized 90-minute premiere on October 11.

First Full Trailer Released for 'Fear the Walking Dead'

It may only be 30 seconds but the first full trailer for "Fear the Walking Dead" offers up some zombpoc clues. Maybe. Hopefully the series is a little more exciting and offers some insight into what caused the dead to rise again. Although, Robert Kirkman has always been more focused on how it's impacted the living and not the origin so we still may remain in the dark about whether it's a virus, microbe, etc.

The hour-long, LA-based spin-off will air on AMC this August and consists of only six episodes. Fear not, another season will air in 2016. The series stars; Kim Dickens, Colman Domingo, Cliff Curtis, Ruben Blades, Alycia Debnam Carey, Mercedes Mason, Shawn Hatosy, and Frank Dillane. Familiar names are in the executive producer chairs, including; Dave Erickson, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert.

Every Death From Season Five of 'The Walking Dead' Neatly Packaged Into One Video

Happy Saturday! Here is over seven minutes of all of the human and zombie deaths from the fifth season of The Walking Dead. From Terminus to Alexandria and everything in between, you can take a walk down memory lane and long for the awesomeness that will be Season Six.

Stephen King On Board For 'The Walking Dead?'

Amazing news was just announced and it involved a writer from Maine and a show about zombies. Stephen King's official page revealed that he'll be writing an episode for the sixth season of The Walking Dead and killing off Daryl. Sure.

Following the record-breaking season 5 finale of The Walking Dead, today brings news that Stephen King has been tapped for season 6. An avid Walking Dead fan himself, Stephen is thrilled to announce that he has agreed to write an episode. What can fans expect? Here’s what Stephen has to say about the direction he plans to take:

“I’ve been asked to write the opening episode of Season 6, where three major characters are to be killed off. No spoilers, but one of them carries a crossbow.”

Haha, Mr. King, but announcing this on April Fool's Day is genius.

'The Walking Dead' Finale Brings in Monstrous Ratings

A giant-sized season finale brought in giant-sized ratings for AMC and The Walking Dead. The numbers are in for "Conquer" and it looks like the title was fitting since it brought in a series record for the finale. Season Five has also been the series' highest rated so far.

Variety reported, "According to preliminary Nielsen estimates, the 90-minute season-ender of 'Walking Dead' averaged an 8.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 15.8 million viewers overall — up about 3% in both categories vs. its year-ago finale. It was also up week-to-week by 17% in the demo and by 14% in total viewers." In other words, it did damn well including bringing in "more than four times as many young adults as the night’s top-rated broadcast entertainment series."

Not only did the actual show do well but its after show, Talking Dead, got its all-time highest ratings.

We'd love to hear your thoughts on the finale and the season as a whole. The sixth season will return in October, but in the meantime, the prequel, Fear The Walking Dead, premieres this summer.

'The Walking Dead' Most Talked About Season Finale Scene: 'Conquer'

Major Spoilers! Do not proceed if you haven't watched the season five finale of The Walking Dead. Seriously, run like the Wolves are chasing you.

So the finale. Many loved it, some we're dissatisfied. Maybe some were hoping for more OMG moments in the form of shocking deaths?

Two of the most shocking deaths were neatly packaged in what AMC is called this episode's 'most talked about scene.' Do you agree? The opening scene with Morgan was quite enjoyable as was when Daryl and Aaron looked like they were done for thanks to the Wolves booby trap. Mock 'The Walking Dead' Trailer...'Zombieland'-Style!

The season 90-minute finale of The Walking Dead airs this weekend at 9 p.m. ET on AMC and a season five marathon starts tonight at 8 p.m. so you can catch up on the the guts and gory.

Okay, now that the business end of this post has been tackled, here's a fun walk down Memory Lane with a mock trailer of The Walking Dead in the style of 2009's Zombieland. 

It was recently posted on YouTube by The Usual Suspect and I thought it was kinda cool. It was fun seeing some of the past kills, how different the group looked and how clean Daryl appeared. It also made me want to watch Zombieland again.

'The Walking Dead' Companion Series Officially Titled 'Fear The Walking Dead'

We finally have an official title for The Walking Dead companion series thanks to a tweet from Robert Kirkman. The show will be called Fear The Walking Dead and we'll be getting a first look this Sunday after The Walking Dead season finale.

We know that the new series will air six one-hour episodes, the setting will be LA and we'll (obviously) be exploring the lives and storylines of new characters. The series will have the same team as TWD with executive producers; Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert. It will premiere late this summer with the show’s second season airing in 2016. AMC president Charles Collier recently revealed that the companion series will explore "what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did ‘turn.’"

AMC has already ordered two seasons of what looks to be a prequel of the original series and cast members include; Cliff Curtis as "Sean," Kim Dickens as "Miranda," also Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey.

So what do you guys think of the title? Seems a little lackluster? Let us know if you're excited about the new series and of course, remember to tune in for the 90-minute season five finale this Sunday at 9 p.m. on AMC followed by Talking Dead.

'The Walking Dead' Most Talked About Scene: 'Try'

Of course I need to begin this by saying, "SPOILERS!" Stop right here unless you want this week's episode of The Walking Dead to be all spoiled and stuff. Still here? Okay here is what AMC deemed the 'most talked about scene' for this week's episode, "Try."

Rowdy Rick was back in all his adrenaline-fueled glory when he engaged in a fight with the object of his affection's husband, Pete. Pete is a well...dick. Doctor Dick? We learned that he is abusing at least his wife, Jessie and he likes to indulge in a drink or 20 on occasion. Of course in a post apocalyptic world, the law is loose and Sheriff Rick wants some order. In the scene leading up to this smack down, Rick offers to rescue Jessie and her children from Pete and Pete walks in on the exchange.

Here's the bloody aftermath that not only involves Pete and Rick, but Carl and Jessie feel the brunt as well. By the way, did anyone else think of the film The Sixth Sense when they saw the red balloon rise? M. Night Shyamalan once said that when the color red appeared in that film, something terrible was about to happen. Maybe I think too much? I'm not psychic or anything but I'm pretty sure the finale won't be pretty.

'The Walking Dead' Most Talked About Scene: 'Spend'

(SPOILERS)

I'm not sure how they went about choosing just one "Most Talked About Scene" from this week's episode of The Walking Dead. I can think of at least five in "Spend." Maybe they chose it because we were graced with another Abrahamism with "Motherdick?" Or the fact that he stepped up and took action when the softy Alexandrians want to run and leave one of their own to be devoured by the swarm of walkers? Or the fact that they send faxes to Cleveland? What's in Cleveland?!

AMC has just released a brief and probably final trailer for "The Walking Dead" before it returns this Sunday for what is being called the "Best Season Ever." That's even the name of this trailer! Weird.

After the tragic events of the mid-season finale–as well as losing the possibility of a cure in Washington, DC–Rick Grimes’ band of survivors find themselves on the road, surviving day to day and trying to hold on to their shredded humanity and dwindling hope.

Stripped of security and without a direction for the future, some of the group near their breaking point, some find themselves hardened and cold and some just try to grasp on to what little they have left.

Though they are still breathing, the line between Rick’s group and the dead is starting to blur.

Could there be anything at this point that brings them back to life?

First Two Minutes Released For 'The Walking Dead' Mid-Season Premiere

AMC just released the first two minutes of the season five, mid-season premiere of "The Walking Dead." Saying goodbye, survivors guilt and plans to move on to a better place filled the brief, but satisfying, glimpse.

AMC just released a new trailer for the remainder of its fifth season of "The Walking Dead" and this time, we get footage. Footage and some words of inspiration from Rick and Michonne. The 30-second trailer is called "Another Day" and shows just how hell-bent the group is on surviving.

The mid-season premiere airs Sunday, February 8 at 9 p.m. ET. The new trailer is embedded below and then you can stick around for any season five goodies you may have missed.

Robert Kirkman Reveals New Info on 'The Walking Dead' Spinoff

A new look, new characters, a new location, and a new director with new vision in Adam Davidson. These are the tidbits Robert Kirkman, creator and one of the executive producers of "The Walking Dead," revealed about the show's new companion series. Entertainment Weekly recently pinned down Kirkman to get some much desired info on the show that will begin filming in a few days.

We already know it will be set in Los Angeles but will it be any way connected to Atlanta or the characters we've come to know and love (and sometimes hate with the fire of a thousand suns)? Here is what Kirkman told EW...

I will say that this is going to be a show about family. But it’s going to be a show about a different type of family that we haven’t explored in "The Walking Dead" thus far. So what we’re trying to do with "The Walking Dead" spinoff is keep the story as familiar as possible for people that love "The Walking Dead," so you’ll get the kind of things that you expect from a Walking Dead story. But, at the same time, we’ll want to tell these stories in a completely different way with completely different people in a completely different setting that’s going to make for a fundamentally different show. I think the look and feel of "The Walking Dead" spinoff is going to be startlingly different.

New Promo Trailer for 'The Walking Dead' Season Five

There's a brand spanking new trailer for the remainder of the fifth season of "The Walking Dead" with a key goal in mind... "Surviving together is all that matters." A foggy forest has the band of survivors shooting at something but is it alive or dead?

Is this a scene from an episode or just a promo? Probably just a promo indicating that the remainder of the season will prove to be even more violent that the first half. That tends to be the trend with this series, right?
