Marvel San Diego Comic-Con Recap

A lot of things went down at San Diego Comic Con this year. Some people on the floor said it seemed more low key, but there was still plenty of buzz happening. As one of the "big two" in comics, Marvel certainly had a good amount of announcements going on and here's a somewhat brief recap of some of what went on.

For Marvel's cinematic universe, it was announced that Evangeline Lilly will portray Hope Pym, the daughter of Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), in Ant-Man. The movie is starting production this month, which is a little nerve wracking for some of the fandom, but Empire sat down with Marvel movie boss, Kevin Feige, and he reports that everything is fine, pointing to the time table for Iron Man 3 which was much more visually demanding. Corey Stoll was introduced as the villain, Yellowjacket. Interestingly enough, this character had a whole two-issue life span in the comics but is using a hero name that was a popular iteration for Hank Pym as an Avenger.

Josh Brolin Cast as Thanos in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

Variety is reporting that their sources have confirmed Josh Brolin has been cast for the role of "Thanos" in Guardians of the Galaxy.

There has been much speculation regarding the galactic-scale super-villain ever since he appeared in the stinger for Marvel's Avengers. First, there was speculation that he was the main villain for Avengers 2 until it was announced that the plot for that movie would follow the storyline for Age of Ultron. Some also suspect that the item Star Lord (What, you haven't heard of him?) is trying to steal in the trailers for GotG is yet another Infinity Stone. Add to that, mentions of Infinity Stones (aka the Infinity Gems in the comics) and the Tesseract (aka the Cosmic Cube) as well as the actual visual of the Infinity Gauntlet in the first Thor movie. Did you blink and miss it?

'Thor: The Dark World' gets electric

The thunder god from Odin returns in the first theatrical poster for Thor: The Dark World, the sequel to the 2011 film which introduced the Avenger.

The film, directed by Game of Thrones alum Alan Taylor, (he directed the kick-ass "Valar Morghulis" episode), will hit theaters November 2013, but a trailer will likely debut hitched to Iron Man 3 in May.

The film is part of the Marvel Phase Two adventures that will lead up to The Avengers 2 in 2015.
