Syfy offers tricks, treats in NYC for Halloween

Syfy is taking another bite out of the Big (candied, caramel) Apple this October with another 31 Nights of HalloweeNYC, which brings Syfy's programming to the streets of New York City.

Teaming up with NYC & Company, the city’s official marketing, tourism, and partnership organization, the event will feature a special three-day Syfy Halloween NYC Fest, Oct. 26-28 in New York’s Flatiron Plaza. Events will be cleverly named after Syfy shows. Included are the Hot Set Hands-On Craft Station, Ghost Hunters Goodies Snack Station and the Paranormal Witness Photo Booth. The Face Off Face painting booth will offer the opportunity for visitors to be transformed through make-up effects.

Spirit of Halloween will also be a unique retail partner to support 14 New York Parks department events, such as Shocktoberfest and the Central Park Pumpkin Festival. Haunted houses will be sponsored in the Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island. Special events for four-legged friends are the Pooch Parade and Howl-o-ween. A full guide to all the NYC activities will be available in the Time Out New York October 3 issue.

Meanwhile, on the small screen, Syfy’s 31 Days of Halloween is currently underway. Paranormal Witness already aired an extended October episode, and Haven will also offer a special episodes this month. Scare Tactics returns for a new season with host Tracy Morgan, and guest zombie actress and singer Brooke Hogan. The show, full of scary and outrageous pranks, will air a marathon of episodes from 7-10:30 p.m. on Oct. 29.

Brand new to the Syfy lineup is Viral Video Showdown. Premiering on Oct. 30, and hosted by Kevin Pereira, each episode features two teams who set out to create the best video as judged by the viral video experts. Viewers may remember Pereira from his work on Attack of the Show.

American Horror House, a Syfy original movie, chronicles the haunting of a sorority house on Halloween night, while the housemother goes on a murderous spree. The American Horror House stars Morgan Fairchild and Alessandra Torresani, and airs Oct. 13.

Another Syfy original movie, Rise of the Zombies, stars Mariel Hemingway, LeVar Burton, Danny Trejo, and French Stewart. Zombie plague survivors set out from their island haven to find a doctor who is rumored to have the cure for the disease. Rise of the Zombies airs on Oct. 27.

Wrapping up the 31 Days of Halloween is the much anticipated Face Off live finale on Oct. 31. For the first time, the season three winner will be chosen by the viewers via a voting feature that will become available after the episode on Oct. 30.
