Pay attention, serious toy collectors and fans of The Walking Dead. Todd McFarlane and his McFarlane Toys, and Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman have collaborated and created a statue of fan-fave Michonne that kicks as much ass as she does.
Thanks to an announcement over at MTV Geek we learned that this exclusive piece "...is approximately 14.5 inches high with a base that rotates 360 degrees, and features Michonne throwing down on a couple of Walkers, with gruesome detail from every angle. The suggested retail price is $295.00, and there will only be 1,500 pieces made."
Kirkman gave MTV Geek a phone interview and revealed "It's a collaboration between myself and Todd McFarlane and McFarlane Toys. I’d been in discussions with McFarlane about doing the statue, and I said, ‘I really want to do something that pushes the envelope’."
He added:
Fans are definitely going to recognize her and the iconic aspects of that character, but I think there’s a lot of room to push the envelope and make things a bit more heightened, a bit more awesome. And this statue is definitely an awesome version of Michonne.
Michonne is a very cool character – she’s definitely the most action-oriented character from the series, and I really liked the idea of letting the McFarlane team run wild, and do their own take on Michonne, something that wasn’t necessarily completely accurate with the way Michonne exists – having two swords, and just going at it and doing something that’s a lot more over-the-top than what we usually do with The Walking Dead.' And they turned it into a really cool statue. Obviously, the sculpting team at McFarlane really outdid themselves. I think this is a really remarkable piece of art.Fans of the show should let definitely let Kirkman know what other characters they’d like to see immortalized in resin. Rick? Tyreese? The Governor (pre- or post-traumatic eye injury)?
Here are the details from McFarlane Toys:
The Walking Dead Michonne statue is part of the McFarlane Toys Collector Club exclusive resin program available only on Store.Spawn.com. Pre-orders will start on February 11, 2013. Each sequentially numbered piece is hand-signed by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and will include a Certificate of Authenticity hand-signed by Todd McFarlane.
It’s a costly piece but will no doubt be an exciting one to own. Not only will you have a limited-edition statue signed by the creator and the toy manufacturer but you’ll have an historic piece of pop culture.-Larissa Mrykalo
