The con runs July 18-21 and Syfy will not only have panels on Being Human, Defiance, Warehouse 13, Haven and Helix, but also will have a special convention Twitter sweepstakes and contests.
The network’s marketing campaign for Ronald D. Moore’s (Battlestar Gallactica) Helix will involve wrapping the Marriot Marquis and Marina Hotel (adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center) with a banner showcasing the series. The team behind the series will be introduced during the Helix panel. The new thriller is about a mysterious outbreak at an Arctic outpost and will premiere on the network in January 2014.
To involve the fans in the fun, the press release revealed that, “Syfy will ask fans to retweet an image of the Helix Marriot Board, Like Facebook.com/Helix, and Follow @HelixSyfy to release clips of the Helix Comic-Con reel prior to the Comic-Con panel.”
Cafe Defiance will also return for the second year in a row. MaryJane’s Cafe will be transformed to feature game play, video displays and interactive elements. Fans can purchase the video game, prizes will be awarded, and a photo op with “Bioman” will be available.
Attendees can also enter for a chance to win a Dodge Charger by either locating or tweeting a pic (#DodgeDefiance) of one of the street-patrolling Dodge Chargers featured in Defiance.
According to the press release, "All social activity will be aggregated to Syfy.com/ComicCon so that those fans unable to attend in person can experience the excitement. All official and user-generated posts will be dynamically updated in real time all week long. Online fans can also tweet out the Syfy.com/ComicCon url to enter for a chance to win a Xbox 360."
