Werewolf Bites: 32 Things You Didn't Know About The Hairy Beasts

2014-01-15-TEENWOLFMTV2550x311.jpg

BY AARON SAGERS

Who's afraid of the big bad werewolf? The creatures of folklore and entertainment have struck us with full-moon fever for generations, and it seems like a new litter of movies or TV shows starring the supernatural pups is always popping up.

On TV, Syfy has a pack of two wolfy shows, such as Bitten and Lost Girl, but there is also MTV's Teen Wolf  -- as well as The CW's werewolf-ish Beauty And The Beast. Vampires may take center stage with CW's The Originals and The Vampire Diaries, but the wolves are a regular burden to the bloodsuckers. Although he's technically a "Blutbad" the hairy Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) on NBC's Grimm is definitely a wolfman. Supernatural also has an ongoing puppy love for them, as did the recently wrapped True Blood and Being Human, and the ongoing show Hemlock Grove. And director David Hayter's new movie Wolves even has Aquaman Jason Momoa wolfing out.

So with all the lupine lunacy out there, and just in time for Halloween, we wanted to serve up a giant serving of paranormal pop culture werewolf bites...

'Being Human' Ends on a Ratings High Note

Oh my holy hell y'all. Here we are, at the end of all things. And a beautiful ending we got to boot.

Sally reminisces about Josh and Aidan first moving into the house and how they all slowly became friends. She flashes back to the present when Aidan is about to snap Josh's neck in his blind rage and freezes them all to buy them some time from Ramona. They need a plan as Aidan is out of his mind and won't stop until Josh is dead, so great is his grief. She steels herself and unbars the door to the basement where she, Nora and Josh were hiding. He makes a beeline for Josh but she uses her super strength to throw him against a wall and knock him out. Nora and Josh put him on the bed and Sally gives Aidan her essence, making him human once again. But her sacrifice means she can't stay on this plane; she loves them all and wants Aidan to have the life he deserves. She then simply fades away.

We're starting to get some answers here so let's do this.

Aidan goes to see Kenny who is fuming over Astrid's death but doesn't know that Kenny knows the truth. This will go well seeing as how emotionally stable teenagers are and all.

Back at the house it's crunch time to move-out date. Everyone is sad about leaving but Ramona is taking this very hard. Sally feels bad and wants to help her but Josh is really creeped out by her. Listen to the man, he knows what he's talking about. They are all looking at fresh starts - Nora and Josh in her apartment as a married couple and Aidan and Sally living in Pete's old RV down by the river after the most romantic proposal ever: "Will you haunt me?" Great! Everyone has a plan except Ramona who rocks in her room, "What about me? What about me?" Guys, can't someone invite her to go with them or something?

Well. We are certainly not going quietly into this goodnight. Let's do this.

Sally awakes in the pink sacrificial bedroom but then oddly enough hears Josh and Nora arguing through the wall and just....glides out thoroughly disrupting the argument over who has custody of Josh's sanity. Smart girl, she heads to the basement to visit a recovering Aidan and actually shakes him awake. Aidan, don't ask questions, just go with it and ah, crap. It's another sex dream. Freud would have a field day with Aidan, I'm just saying. Alas, Nora walks in on his dream looking for a sledgehammer as one does and finds that as well as the family jewels. Why does one need a sledgehammer? Well, to break through the closet to the secret room of course.

Sally's dad stops by to let them know that they have until Monday to turn in the keys as the house has been sold as he has to get rid of the house. I can't say that I blame him really; both of his kids died there. And it serves to wrap up the housemate story line.

Things have been set right but Sally is burdened by the knowledge of Josh's future and longing for the love she shared with Aidan in the past. Let's do this.

Josh takes a meeting in the woods with Andrew and Alpha Mark to clear the air and start fresh. When an offered handshake doesn't work, he does the next best thing: strips down and turns in front of them. A little wolfy flexing as it were. While Josh is trying to win over the popular kids, Suzanna wants Aidan to hit Boston where it hurts: the removal of Kenny. If Aidan does this, Suzanna will know that he's serious about going straight. If you look up the word "Aidan" in the dictionary, I'm pretty sure the definition will be "easily manipulated by women."

Last week on "Being Human," Sally lived and died, Aidan loved and lost, and Josh just got absolutely hosed. Let's do this.

Sally stands in the alley looking at Aidan cradling her body and he wants to know why she was there. Well, Aidan, when a girl loves a vampire, she'll do really stupid things like going to a vamp bar to keep him from doing even stupider things like calling Bishop for help in avenging her death. Blood-drunk and spoiling for a fight, Aidan and Bishop track Ray and Josh to make things right.

Josh is spazzing out about Sally dying. Again. Ah, there is the wolf we know and love. It looks like there will be a throw-down in the warehouse rafters when Aidan turns on the flash speed to get to Ray and gouges his eyes out with his thumbs before tossing Ray over the railing. While Bishop approves of the outcome, he doesn't understand why Josh is still standing. But really, there is no better torture for Josh that Aidan could devise - leave him alive and hating himself without a way to lift the curse, knowing that he'll never have Nora. Okay, that ranked pretty high on the Assholio-meter Aidan. Sally agrees saying that he's a monster but he doesn't care and if he ever sees Josh again, he'll kill him. Man, I hope that Josh can get out of the lease otherwise, awkward.

We really can't get into tonight's episode with addressing the elephant in the room: our beloved 'Being Human' ending. I have many feels, mostly of the sad variety but going into the back 9 (6), we are setting up for a hell of a showdown on the 18th green. Let's do this.

Remember, Sally is now stuck in 2010 with herself the night she died but this is a stronger, wiser, more impulsive Sally who rather than passively watches herself be thrown down the stairs, jumps into her past self and proceeds to fight back against Danny, injuring her hand in the process. This of course, sends her to the hospital where Josh, Aidan and Nora work. She avoids Nora but Aidan takes her into an exam room and gives her a brace amid much giggling. Someone's got a crush. Butterfly effect? What butterfly effect?

Sam Witwer On 'Being Human' Cancellation & Tonight's 'Rewind, Rewind'

BY AARON SAGERS

The journey to Being Human is coming to a close for the vampire, ghost and werewolves on Syfy's supernatural drama. The network announced last week the series would not return following its April 7 Season Four finale. But star Sam Witwer wants fans to know Being Human is not ending inhumanely.

"This could be the best one," said Witwer, who has played vampire of the household Aidan every Monday night at 9 p.m. since the U.S. adaptation of the British show premiered in 2011.

Over the course of four seasons, Witwer, along with costars Sam Huntington, Meaghan Rath and Kristen Hager - and recurring guest stars such as Mark Pellegrino, Kyle Schmid, Pat Kiely, Connor Price, Amy Aquino - have crafted a series with an active social media fan base within the supernatural genre. Under the auspices of showrunner Anna Fricke, they've battled expiration, resurrection, transformation, mutation and zombification. But now, the show has face its greatest challenge: Cancellation.

The series stars have known about the show's ending for some time, they filmed farewells to fans (embedded below) and the sets have long been burned. But Witwer emphasized in a recent interview in Portland, Ore. (where he was filming a guest spot on NBC's Grimm) that fans will be getting a true finale, something rare in the current and unforgiving television landscape.

"This season we really swing for the fences, and by the end of it we wreck the car," he joked before adding, "but the high notes have never been so high."

"The stuff happening on the show is so emotionally charged by the end of the season."

Syfy Announces 'Being Human' Series Finale

In a statement released by Syfy, this will be the final season for "Being Human":

"With the second half of 'Being Human’s 4th season set to kick off, our human-at-heart characters are about to embark on a journey full of twists, turns and surprises that will culminate in a spectacular series finale on Syfy, Monday, April 7th.

Showrunner Anna Fricke and the talented producers, writers, cast and crew have done an amazing job bringing this show to life over the past four seasons and we sincerely thank them and the series’ production company Muse Entertainment for their hard work. They’ve saved the best for last with the final six episodes that revisit the story’s beginning, leading to a not-to-be-missed send-off for Aidan, Sally, Josh and Nora."

We've actually known this has been in the works for some time, and will share some interviews about that soon. But for now, check out this round of Thanks Yous from the "Being Human" cast.

'Being Human' Recap: 'Gallows Humor'

BY DAWN FEAKES

Previously, Aidan fell off the wagon, Josh slept with the pack leader's wife and a mysterious force killed Sally's brother Robbie.

Coming down off of his bloodlust high, Aidan calls Kenny for help in cleaning up his mess then hightails it out of there back to the house where Josh and Nora have found Ghost Robbie and Sally in the basement. Robbie's not dealing with the whole being dead thing too well but at least he's not alone; vampires, witches and werewolves, oh my! Welcome to the club Robbie. Of course Sally wants to resurrect him - magic has been so easy and uncomplicated in the past after all, but she'll need to get Donna. And to get Donna, she needs the death spot. To the Shop-Mart my good man!

Aidan meanwhile heads off to see Suzanna and charms her for a hit of the 70 ml of blood she gets by on daily. Strangely enough, he doesn't react well to it. Safe to say that she is well aware of his...indiscretion of the previous evening. Aidan, she told you before she knows everything; she is a woman after all. Oh, and the fact that he reeks of blood and is as high as a kite. That might have something to do with it too.

Wow. So, that happened. Let's do this.

Was the first pack turning successful? I guess it depends on if by successful you mean Josh waking up next to someone who was not Nora but the pack leader's wife then yes, yes it was. We thought Josh was neurotic before? Oh man, that was just JV stuff.

Aidan is coming down off of his bender when Nora and Josh come back. Sally's brother Robbie chooses then to show up to deliver the news that they either buy the house in 30 days or vacate as Sally's father wants to unload it. Seeing as Josh doesn't currently have a job, it's going to be a little tough to come up with the $300,000 Robbie is asking for it as-is. Nora is seduced by the picture of domesticity presented by the other couples in the pack. Maybe this is their chance to start their own lives. Meanwhile Sally will go to any measure to save the house: floating lamps, rattling pipes, have Aidan eat people...you know, the usual tactics. But what might be the best plan for Sally and Aidan is not necessarily the best plan for Josh and Nora.

Previously on 'Being Human': Aidan chased Suzanna out of town and, Josh and Nora delivered a were-baby and Sally may have bitten off more than she could chew...metaphorically. Let's do this.

Aidan's big reveal of his true nature to Kat does not go as planned as first she thinks he's crazy and is now scared, not of the relationship but of him. After threatening him with a steak knife she tells him to leave and he does, so score one for personal growth. She just needs some time Aidan; a millenia or so should do it.

Josh and Nora visit new parents Caroline and Andrew who are hosting another happy wolfy couple. Sadly though, even in a group of wolves Josh is still an outsider. The baby, April, is doing great but Caroline is still processing things; they didn't get to do any of the fun prep as it all happened so fast. Nora impulsively offers to throw them a baby shower. Josh is more worried about Alpha Mark and his wife, Wendy, trying to dominate him. Yay for neuroses not being dead!

Previously on "Being Human:" Josh is going through a mid-wolf crisis that results in him quitting his job, Sally has a new soul to save and Aidan's ex-ish wife Suzanna is going full on Blade in Boston.

Josh and Nora discuss journaling to identify triggers for the wolf when Sally comes in asking for help in identifying the little girl whom she of course has dubbed 'Lil Smokie' but Nora's on her way to work and Josh has many important errands to run, if only he could find his list. Who can Sally turn to now? I know! Zoe.

Aidan and Kat have just done a little wrestling of their own and are engaging in some mattress talk. Everyone's so happy so cue Terrible Awful Thing in 3...2...1...and Kat vamps out. Dammit Aidan. Oh wait, it's just another sex dream but this time Kenny wakes him up. Aidan, I don't want to judge but maybe you should take something for that.

Josh is back, Sally can read, and Aidan found somebody that he used to know. Let's do this.

What do ghosts dream about? Well if you're Sally, when your fiance was about to kill you, you strike back and your witchy BFF finishes him off.

Back to reality - Donna's Big Book of Magic is constantly changing with new spells appearing all the time. I wish my cookbooks would do that. It would save a lot of space in my cabinet. Aidan tells her magic costs her; can she learn to control it? Because Sally is the master of tact, she reminds Aidan that it took him a couple hundred years to perfect his control so give her a little time here, M'kay?

New Times and Sneak Peeks of Syfy's 'Bitten,' 'Being Human,' and 'Lost Girl'

You may notice that Monday nights on Syfy just underwent a minor shake up. "Lost Girl" and "Bitten" did a little time shift with "Lost Girl" returning to its 10 p.m. ET slot after "Being Human," and "Bitten" moving to 8 p.m. ET. "Being Human" stays put at 9 p.m. ET and we have promos for all three shows.

"Bitten" 8 p.m.: "Trespass" (summary from TV.com) Elena and Clayton fall back into old patterns from their former relationship, which causes alarm for Elena who wants to forget the past. Together, they track down the Mutt at a warehouse, but find themselves in a sticky situation when the Mutt shifts to a wolf.

"Being Human" 9 p.m.: "Lil' Smokie" The witch is back! Will Sally be able to take her?

'Being Human' Recap: 'That Time of the Month'

BY DAWN FEAKES

Welcome back! Are you ready? Let's do this.

Remember when Suzanna just showed up at the house? Turns out she can't come in. I wonder why that could be? Well, it might have something to do with Bishop fishing her out of the river and turning her into a vampire to keep Aidan happy. Oh Bishop, it's like you're new here ... but back then. Aidan and Suzanna make some of the most awkward conversation ever and it's just painful. Pants? Leather? And, how come you never called me?

Nora is freaking out about Josh slipping further away into the wolf when Sally offers to help using Donna's magic seeing as that's kind of what got Josh into this mess in the first place. Nora, she's becoming a time lord ... I would think carefully before proceeding down this particular path.

'Being Human' Recap: 'Old Dog New Tricks'

BY DAWN FEAKES-LANGE

"Being Human" is back and in a big way! A lot happened tonight so let's get to it.

Sally awakes from a soothing cucumber nap to the sound of Donna asking for the magazine. Sally has no idea where she is or why she is wearing nothing but towels, but it's a very lovely day spa. Donna is also in a towel and this might be a good time for everyone to freshen their drinks.

The scene shifts to Aidan running through the woods and it looks like he's approaching top vampire speed being chased by a very angry wolf. He yells for Nora to grab the gun. She grabs the loaded gun and in a well-rehearsed dance, dashes into a barn and releases a goat to lure the wolf into the stall. They lock him in and Nora ruefully observes that she could be in Italy on her honeymoon yet is here
leading her husband on with a goat and living out of an RV. She and Aidan discuss that Josh seems to be getting stronger and faster. What happens the day Aidan can't outrun him? Aidan tries to calm her by reminding her that Josh is trapped and scared but he's confident they can help him. Aidan also believes that he can help anybody, anytime, so I'm "Team Nora" right now.
