Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming announced today that "Game of Thrones" has not only been renewed for a fifth season, but a sixth season as well.
He noted, “'Game of Thrones' is a phenomenon like no other. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.”
The Emmy®- and Golden Globe-winning series based on the epic novels of George R.R. Martin kicked off its ten-episode fourth season Sunday, April 6 and garnered 6.6. million viewers for its 9 p.m. ET airing. This made it HBO’s most-watched program since the finale of “The Sopranos” in 2007 (11.9 million viewers).
This season has already received praised including the Los Angeles Times calling Thrones “the Best Television Show Ever,” adding that “no other series comes close,” and “television just doesn’t get any better than this."
The second episode of the fourth season airs this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET exclusively on HBO
