Last week, we reported that the HBO series, "Game of Thrones," would be engaging in a huge first. Screenings of the final two episodes of season four were coming to IMAX as well as an exclusive bonus trailer for its fifth season. The event was supposed to begin on January 23 but was moved to January 29 at 10 p.m. ET. Also, instead of 150 theaters, "The Watchers on the Wall" and "The Children" will now be shown in about 200 theaters across the US and Canada.
Why the changes? The official blog site states, "Due to high levels of consumer demand, 'Game of Thrones' in IMAX will now launch one week later on Thursday, January 29 beginning at 10 p.m. and extend through February 5. The date change allows for an expanded roll-out of screens to upwards of 200 IMAX theatres. This will be the first-ever presentation of a television program in IMAX theatres, featuring two episodes from season four of 'Game of Thrones' followed by the worldwide debut of the series’ season five sneak-peek preview created exclusively for IMAX."
Good news, right? But wait! There's more! The site states that, "...the first 300 IMAX ticket holders for the Thursday night opening show time at participating IMAX theatres will receive a commemorative 'Game of Thrones' poster from well-known illustrator Robert Ball, who designed interpretive images of the most iconic deaths in each episode."
Is a theater near you on the list and if so, will you be attending? Let us know how awesome it was if you do! Tickets will go on sale on January 16 and you can secure your seats by clicking here. Also, more theaters may be added so keep checking back here to see if one is close to you.
The fifth season of "Game of Thrones" begins on April 12 at 9 p.m. ET.
