Syfy's 'Dominion' and 'Defiance' Returning in 2015

Two popular Syfy programs have been renewed and will return in 2015. According to Entertainment Weekly, Syfy announced that its angel-war thriller, "Dominion" will be back for season two and the alien drama, "Defiance" will return for a third run. Both shows will receive 13-episode orders from Universal Cable Productions.


The shows produced decent ratings and EW mentions that "Dominion" had "more tweets on Thursdays nights this summer than any other drama series." We'll keep you posted on the return dates for the shows.

Heaven can't wait to raise a little hell. That seems to be the goal of the angels in Syfy's new series Dominion, premiering June 19 at 9 p.m.. Spun off from the 2010 film Legion, the series picks up 25 years after a war began between some irritable angelic forces and mankind.

In the post-apocalyptic show, God has taken an extended vacay, and the archangel Gabriel (Carl Beukes) is commanding a force of lower angels to tear up Earth. Now entrenched in fortified cities, humans fight with the heavenly kind, and with one another. Meanwhile, "good" archangel Michael (Tom Wisdom) tries to protect a soldier, who is "The Chosen One" (Christopher Egan).

But aren't angels supposed to rock a halo and wings, and are dedicated to looking out for God's favorite creation: Mankind?

You'd like to think that, but author Rosemary Ellen Guiley said angels are more complicated than the robed figures from Hollywood that like to play a harp and make an entrance through beams of light. And she would know; in addition to other paranormal topics, Guiley is an expert researcher on angels and has published six books on them, including The Encyclopedia of Angels and Ask the Angels.

Syfy Launches Trailer for New Drama, 'Dominion'

Syfy is promising hell on Earth this June and it's all thanks to...angels? "Dominion" is a new supernatural series based on the film "Legion" and it premieres on Syfy this June 19 at 9 p.m. ET. They just launched a new trailer to let us know just how pissy these heavenly creatures really are.

The drama features Christopher Egan ("Resident Evil: Extinction"), Tom Wisdom ("300"), Roxanne McKee ("Game of Thrones"), Alan Dale ("Lost"), Anthony Stewart Head ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") and Luke Allen-Gale ("The Borgias").

"Dominion" is an epic supernatural drama set in the near future. Specifically, 25 years after 'The Extinction War,' when an army of lower angels, assembled by the archangel Gabriel, waged war against mankind. The archangel Michael, turning against his own kind, chose to side with humanity. Rising out of the ashes of this long battle are newly fortified cities which protect human survivors. At the center of the series is the city of Vega, a glistening empire that has formed from the ruins of what was once Las Vegas.

Casting News for Syfy Series 'Dominion'

Syfy recently announced some exciting casting news for the pilot of "Dominion," their upcoming supernatural drama based off of the 2010 film, "Legion."

Joining the 90-minute pilot are Roxanne McKee ("Game of Thrones," "Wrong Turn 5"), Luke Allen-Gale ("The Borgias"), and most notably, Anthony Stewart Head ("Repo: The Genetic Opera," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), with Shivani Ghai ("Bride & Prejudice") slated for a guest appearance.

A recent press release from Syfy gave some character details and thus, insight into the roles of these new cast members:

Syfy Has Faith in New Pilot 'Dominion'

A 90-minute pilot titled Dominion, has received the green light from the Syfy Network. It is based on the 2010 Paul Bettany and Dennis Quaid film, Legion which centered around God losing faith in humanity and sending angels to Earth to bring about the apocalypse.

According to Deadline, Legion's director and co-writer, Scott Stewart, will be directing and Vaun Wilmott (Sons of Anarchy) will write the pilot.

Universal Cable Productions and Bold Films, who produced the feature film for Screen Gems, are co-producers. Stewart, along with Michael Litvak and David Lancaster, will act as executive producers, with Wilmott acting as co-executive producer.

According to Bloody Disgusting, "Dominion is described as an epic supernatural action drama set 25 years in the future after a war between an army of angels and mankind has transformed the world. It follows the perilous journey of a rebellious young soldier who discovers he’s the unlikely savior of humanity.”

A release date has yet to be announced.
