'A World of Haunted Houses' Infographic Asks, 'Have You Ever Seen a Ghost?'

According to this infographic, "A World of Haunted Houses," beliefs about ghosts certainly vary around the world. We here in the United States have more people saying they've seen a ghost. However, compared to England and Canada, we don't believe as strongly as they do with only 45% of our population versus 52% in England and 47% in Canada. Why do you suppose this is true? There are 32% of Americans who also believe we can interact with ghosts. Are you in that percentage?

Out of the top five most notorious haunted destinations in the world, two of the five are in the United States (The Amityville House and The Myrtles Plantation). Haunted House Reality Series Heading to ABC

An exclusive over at The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that a new unscripted haunted house reality series is heading to ABC. Details surrounding the unnamed series are being kept a secret but the project has been sold by Warner Bros. president of unscripted reality and programming, Mike Darnell. Prolific “Insidious” producer, Jason Blum and his Blumhouse productions are slated to be the project’s executive producer.

More details came thanks to Variety, “Variety has confirmed that the project currently has a pilot order at the Alphabet and will deal with haunted houses, a seemingly endless area of focus for nonfiction cable nets, with Travel Channel, Syfy and others offering haunted house fare.”

According to THR, the collaboration between ABC and Blum “…marks a reunion with ABC, where Blumhouse produced the found-footage horror series 'The River' with 'Paranormal Activity' director Oren Peli in early 2012. Though that project ultimately was short-lived, the company has continued to beef up its horror portfolio, with franchises that include 'The Purge' and 'Insidious.'”

HauntWorld Announces List Of Top Haunted House Attractions

The list is in and it's scary. HauntWorld, a premier Halloween event directory website, announced its Top 13 list of haunted attractions in the U.S. According to a press release from HauntWorld, these top attractions are "among the top entertainment attractions in the country, cost over $1 million to construct and are expected to generate over $1 billion in revenue."

So how will they spend that money in creating better scares for attendees? To visitors, the listed haunts are utilizing "advanced pyrotechnics, explosions and animatronics." Also, the old is new again, said HauntWorld owner Larry Kirchner.

"We’re seeing an interesting theme this year with haunted houses as they look to bring in these visitors – a lot of old-fashioned creepy themes are making a comeback, with a resurgence in scary clowns, old schoolhouses and haunted motels."

So where are the best haunted houses? The 13th Floor in Denver, Colo., supposedly gets top honors, but big states Pennsylvania and Texas both appear twice on the list, so maybe those are the scariest places to visit.
