New Comics June 26: Massive Uncanny Lazarus Rises from an Unwritten Ultron

BY DAVID BERCK

So. Many. Releases. Normally, we have to drop a couple of titles or so from our feature just so you, our valued reader, don’t want to take an axe to the writer’s head for driveling on and on about the neat new stuff being released. This week involved even heavier cutting as it seems everybody was saving heavy hitters for the last week in June.

Besides what’s listed here, give some serious consideration to picking up X-Men #2 and Fathom: The Elite Saga #2.

Dark Horse
Massive #13

Brian Wood begins a new story arc of his near future environmentally disastered (yes, I made that word up) Earth. With the Massive’s trail gone completely cold, another problem arises for the Kapital’s crew. And it lands them in New York. What could possibly go wrong?

New comics: May 15, 2013

BY DAVID BERCK

This week’s featured releases is a varied lot. We’ve got a new series based on a Cartoon Network hit, a new retro sci-fi series based on classic Battlestar Galactica, which will hopefully satisfy the purists who had problems with the Syfy series and some just really cool sounding new series. It seems like there isn’t much coming out from the HUGE main titles we’re used to seeing from Marvel and DC, but that’s OK. It just means more to look forward to in the near future. Including the newest of X-Men titles next week.

Boom! Studios

Regular Show #1
Eight different covers, including a subscription/pre-order variant and a boxset of each.
Boom! says: “Regular Show ... It's anything but. Cartoon Network’s powerhouse series now has its own comic book series! Hot on the heels of the smash hit adaptation, Adventure Time, KaBOOM! unveils the next all-ages comic phenomenon! Join Mordecai the Bluejay and Rigby the Raccoon, a couple of best bros in their twenties just tryin’ to chill for a bit, man. But when you’re livin’ in as crazy a world as they are, no day can be called...regular! Ask your retailer about the pre-order variant by Chris Houghton (Adventure Time, Reed Gunther) and the incentive variant by Dustin Nguyen (Batman, L'il Gotham)!”

'Hoax Hunters' comic becomes ongoing series

After becoming a big hit with its Issue #0 in March, Image Comics has announced that Hoax Hunters will be an ongoing series beginning this July. The book is a witty horror-comedy that follows a group of reality-TV paranormal investigators as they set out to explore - and debunk - paranormal activity around the world. But there's a catch: The team is actually setting out to cover up real phenomena.

The official word from Image:
In HOAX HUNTERS, the new Image Comics series co-created and written by Steve Seeley and Michael Moreci and drawn by Axel Medellin (ELEPHANTMEN), a team of intrepid investigators travel the world to debunk the paranormal for a reality show. Aliens, cryptids, monsters — all are uncovered and dismissed as hoaxes for the pleasure of the viewing public.
Except nothing on “Hoax Hunters” is actually a hoax — save for the TV show itself. In reality, every strange sighting, every inexplicable creature, every impossible event is real, and it’s the Hoax Hunters team’s job to keep them under wraps.
