Simon Pegg, Nick Frost Creating Paranormal Investigator Show

Between zombies, friendly aliens, and alien apocalypse, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are no strangers to paranormal pop culture. And now the comedians are turning their focus to the world of paranormal investigators in a new horror-comedy show.

As reported by Variety (via io9), the stars of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Paul, and The World’s End are working on Truth Seekers, a show about an investigative team tackling a new mystery or haunting each week.

Said Pegg:

“It’ll start as a very parochial idea, a very small business venture for these people, but it will expand as the series goes on to be something far more global. It’s a language everyone understands, the mystery of the unknown. Shaun of the Dead was a very parochial story set in North London and somehow it managed to get this global reach because everyone understands the language of zombie movies.”

Truth Seekers likely won't star Pegg and Frost, but arrives as the next project from Stolen Picture, their new production company. The first? The similarly paranormal genre Slaughterhouse Rulez, a movie directed by Crispian Mills about a “subterranean demon” wreaking havoc in a British school.

'Doc Of The Dead' Zombie Documentary To Premiere At SXSW

If you love (or are terrified by) zombies like we are, then you're going to want to catch "Doc Of The Dead" when it premieres at SXSW Monday March 10, then on EPIX Saturday March 15. Directed by Alexandre O. Philippe, who was behind "The People Vs. George Lucas," and co-produced by Geekscape, "Doc" explores the modern zombie genre and how it evolved, and decomposed, into its current state.

According to the film's synopsis, it's "shot and edited in a cinematically edgy, high-octane style," and will host "a rich pop culture dialogue with zombie experts and celebrities, seek participation from YouTubers and indie filmmakers, and investigate the possibility and ramifications of an actual zombie outbreak."

Since the teaser trailer premiered last year, this has been one to watch for. It not only tracks the popularity of zombies and the phenomenon that surrounds them, but also includes commentary from a lot of that bring the undead to life (as does the kick-ass poster from "The Walking Dead" artist, Charlie Adlard, shown here). In fact, the film boasts a lot of friends of Paranormal Pop Culture, including "World War Z" writer Max Brooks and Matt Mogk of the Zombie Research Society, and "Zombie Autopsies" author Steve Schlozman. It also includes interviews with George Romero, Simon Pegg, Greg Nicotero, Robert Kirkman and Bruce Campbell. Actually, if you head over to "Entertainment Weekly," you can catch an exclusive clip of Brucie talking about officiating a zombie wedding.

Simon Pegg, Nick Frost on Pub Crawls, Friendship at 'The World's End'

Before you get to "The World's End," you have to encounter many pints of English beer. At least that's what I learned on my travels to England to explore small town pub life and interview Simon Pegg and Nick Frost about the third installment of their "Blood and Ice Cream" (aka Cornetto) trilogy.

Out now on DVD/Blu-ray, "The World's End" follows "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" -- and once again stars Pegg and Frost, and is directed by Edgar Wright. But instead of zombies or small town mafia, the plot revolves around old friends who return to their hometown for an epic pub crawl called The Golden Mile. Except, instead of reminiscing, the crew faces off against robot aliens and a realization that home is never quite the same as you remember it.

Although, according to Pegg, the sense of alienation that comes with going home is due more to the visitor's changes.

"If you feel alienated it is because you've changed, not necessarily because the place has changed," he said, which is why the team took the idea of alientation to its literal extreme with an alien invasion.

Simon Pegg wants you to visit The World’s End several times. But he doesn’t care about the box office receipts.

“I want to be able to make another film so I want it to do well but I want people to see The World’s End lots and lots of times and still be getting stuff on a seventh or eighth watch.”

According to the actor, who has been on a summer-long tour of panels, Q&As, screenings and interviews to hype the film, which opens today, there are “tiny little things” that make the movie “meticulously structured” and hold up over repeat viewings.


“We live in an age where we can just stick films in over and over but we didn’t use to,” Pegg said in a recent interview. “We used to watch a film in the movies, then maybe it’d be on TV and then we could tape it and watch it; now we can own it and literally watch it again straight afterwards, pause it, zoom in on it, screen grab it.”

'The World's End' trailer hits on Twitter

Thanks to an early morning tweet from Simon Pegg, we can now get a glimpse into the world’s most epic pub crawl. Five friends reassemble to finish what they couldn’t in their youth ... 12 pubs, 12 pints and a finish at the fabled "The World’s End" pub.

Of course, things have changed a bit in Newton Haven the chums can’t blame it on the alcohol. Events of galactic importance have occurred.
