'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' Restored for 40th Anniversary Theatrical Re-release

It was announced yesterday that MPI/Dark Sky Films will be releasing a restored version of Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic, "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre." This re-release is in honor of the film’s 40th anniversary, and the restoration will be revealed at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas next week. The complete details from the press release are below.

"In 1973, Tobe Hooper, a cast of unknown actors, and a crew of Austin film students and recent graduates headed to Round Rock, Texas in the middle of July. For the next 32 days they worked around the clock in 100 degree weather to make The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The movie became a huge hit on the drive-in circuit and eventually grossed $30 million. It was invited to the 1975 Cannes Film Festival Director’s Fortnight, and was acquired as part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Since then, it has become the eighth highest-grossing horror franchise of all time. In 2012, 'Sight & Sound' magazine named it one of the 250 most important movies ever made.

They're Heeeeere! 'Poltergeist' Remake Gets a Release Date

The reboot of Tobe Hooper's classic "Poltergeist," directed by Gil Keenan and produced by Sam Raimi, will be hitting theaters Friday February 13, 2015. What could be better than a little Valentine's scare?

In a revisionist take on the classic horror film, a family struggling to make ends meet relocates to an outdated suburban home and is confronted by an angry spirit who kidnaps their youngest daughter and challenges them to band together to rescue her from the clutches of evil.

Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Saxon Sharbino, Kyle Catlett and Kennedi Clements star as the Bowen family, or the Freelings 2.0, with Jarred Harris joining as television host, Carrigan Burke and recently added, Jane Adams as Dr. Powell, a paranormal expert. Rumor has it that the Bowen family will be joined in their "new" home by a cast member from the original 1982 film...curious? Check it out, after the jump!

Back in the days of big hair and bad fashion - that's right, the '80s - there was a documentary-style human interest show on called That's Incredible which was a hybrid of Real People and Leonard Nimoy's In Search Of ... Hosted by John Davidson, Fran Tarkenton and Cathy Lee Crosby (right), and produced by Alan Landsburg - who also created In Search Of ... - the show would explore fantastic feats of humans and paranormal phenomena.

In a way that sums up most of the decade, the show was cheesy and topped with awesome sauce.

Anyhow, in one of the show's more memorable episodes - which Paranormal Pop Culture has pinned down to probably airing in Sept. 1981, episode #44 and in the show's third season using the Encyclopedia of Television Series, Pilots and Specials: 1974-1984 by Vincent Terrace - there was a segment featuring psychic Sylvia Browne at a supposedly haunted Toys "R" Us store in Sunnyvale, Calif.
