Paranormal Pop Passion: 'Eclipse'

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

After it has made a bundle of money after two weeks in theaters (released June 30), what more is there to be said about Eclipse. Well in one word, the movie can be summed up as: Teasing. But since my editor won't settle for one word, I'll give you a few more.

When we last left the town of Forks, Wash., in New Moon, Bella (Kristen Stewart ) was “technically” with vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson). She went to Italy and back for her man, so you’d think shapeshifter Jacob (Taylor Lautner) would take the hint, right? Nope, and he’s not entirely to blame. Bella does love him, and in Eclipse, the boundaries of that love are tested.

Meanwhile, bad girl vampire Victoria is bent on revenge for the murder of her mate James. Scheming for months she finally puts her plan into action, and begins stalking her prey in nearby Seattle. Her first victim (or more likely, coerced enlistee) is Riley Biers, a former residence of Forks. Victoria convinces Riley of her love for him and he joins her in plan to create a vampire army to destroy Bella and the Cullens. Unfortunately for the pair, their actions don’t go unnoticed. Both the Cullens and the Volturi have begun to track the vicious murders and rise in missing person reports.

Oddly, neither act on their hunches - which sums up much of the movie. There is a lot of promise of action, but nothing quite moves when you want it to.

Now what are Edward and Bella doing? Living the dream of two love stricken teenagers: dating, planning for their future and debating on how, or if, Edward should turn Bella into the glistening undead. Bella is blissfully unaware of Victoria’s plan for her demise. Jacob decides to tell Bella of all the recent activities that have occurred. And as any smart woman would do, she confronts the man she loves.

This is where her torture begins. Does she stay with the man who thinks she is weak and needs to be protected or go with the one who has never lied to her and has confidence in her strength?

Paranormal Pop Passion: 'Gabriel'

Synopsis: The war over purgatory has begun. The righteous Angels must defeat the corrupt Fallen, who have turn perdition into their own personal playground. The souls held in the dark limbo are forced to do the Fallen's bidding. So far, all the archangels (known as Arcs) sent to put an end to the ominous dominion have fallen short. Gabriel is mankind's last hope to save netherworld, and he must transform into a human to enter this middleground.

Sensual Gabriel (Andy Whitfield) roams the streets of purgatory, which has become a gritty cityscape, while new emotions, needs and desires twist in his mind. Luckily for the viewer, he has delicious Jade (Samantha Noble) to help him adapt. Jade is the former archangel Amitiel, who has been defeated in battle and forced to give up her wings.

Passion Points: I waited patiently for the love scene. The sexual tensions intensified through out the movie between the hero and heroine. Finally, the anticipated scene was delivered. Unfortunately, it was like watching daytime television - under the sheets, a few peek-a-boo scenes, hungry sensuous kissing, but not the rawness I expected. All in all, 'Gabriel' left me tepid and unable to reach a desired boil.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

Wicked. That's how I would explain the sensual teasing scenes shared between Lucian (Michael Sheen) and Sonja (Rhona Mitra) in the third installment of this werewolves vs. vamps franchise.

We start with a secret rendezvous in the forgotten tunnels under the Vampires fortress. Next the clothes vanish and Sonja is snaking her way down Lucien's tone body. True he is filthy, and I can imagine kind of smells like a dog, but does that detract from her hunger for him? Hell no!

The next thing we see she is on top, and with her powerful thighs, pens him in place while he hangs over the side of the ledge. Really?

Sonja is suppose to be tough, I get that, but that scene killed it for me. Then we have cuddle time. Maybe I am missing something. Was this a metaphor? Men and women are equal? Somebody tell me!

This one is 50/50 for me; I am a sucker for a taunting exhibition because it fires off my imagination. Unfortunately, the cliff diving made me think, umm ... why?

Paranormal Pop Passion: 'Watchmen'

As I listened to Watchmen a few weeks back on HBO a certain scene caught my attention. I use "listened" because I was editing at the time and - needing some background noise to fill the void of silence in my office - I turned to the TV Guide for assistance. Anyhow, the scene played out between lovers Laurie Jupiter aka Silk Spectre II (Malin Akerman) and Jon Osterman aka Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup). He had cloned himself and was pleasuring her with him and himself. Now she looked to be enjoying the titillation then she freaked and got upset.

Really? Why would she get mad? My reaction to two-plus men sating my passion would not be anger!

Later during the movie, she hooks up with Dan Dreiberg aka Nite Owl II (Patrick Wilson). During the encounter with Nite Owl II, all I could focus on was his capacious derrière, thrusting between her thighs, then of course it ended with the "orgasm" - flames shooting out of the craft's engines.

Personally I would choose Dr. Manhattan over Nite Owl II, but let me know who you would pick and why.

Paranormal Pop Passion: 'Secretary'

To date, the mere mention of Secretary makes me smolder after one night - as my insomnia got the better of me - I lounged on my couch surfing through the endless titles on my DISH guide.

About to give up and grab a book, the title caught my eye and I hit the obliging "info" button, read the plot synopsis and became instantly intrigued. After an unbalanced young woman newly released from a mental institution , finds employment as a secretary to an imperious lawyer, where their employer-employee relationship turns into a erotic, sadomasochistic liaison.

The first incident of the lawyer's wanton need for discipline and submission, made me want to throw out the spellcheck on Microsoft Word and be a bad assistant! Let's just say Mr. Grey's (James Spader) form of correction and Secretary Lee's (Maggie Gyllenhaal) blissful reaction to his punishment will leave you shopping for paddles and restraints. Each smack teased my curious appetite, leaving me in anticipation for the next carnal rendezvous. And there are many! This is definitely a movie meant to be watched by inquisitive lovers.
