Paranormal Pop Culture: 2014 Winter TV Guide

The holidays are over and now we can resume watching not only our favorite TV programs but also get addicted to some new shows. From blood-suckers to aliens to ghosts, there's something for everyone to enjoy from the comfort of their couch.

Syfy is handing out the goodies with their new shows "Helix," Bitten," and "Opposite Worlds." The CW is starting off the new year with the return of "Arrow," new fan-fav, "The Originals," as well as introducing us to "The 100." Some shows are returning but don't yet have a premiere date locked down, for example, "Mountain Monsters" will be returning to Destination America in "early 2014" and we're eagerly awaiting a premiere date for "Game of Thrones." So here you go! A winter and early spring guide to new and old.

The Paranormal Prevails in the People's Choice Awards Nominees

The People’s Choice Awards nominees are out and there is no shortage of paranormal representation. Need evidence? Here are some categories where the unexplained made an appearance.

Guess what even made the list? The surprise Syfy hit, “SHARKNADO!” Other favs are "The Walking Dead," "American Horror Story," "Game of Thrones," "World War Z" and "True Blood."

Voting continues until December 5, so be sure to do your “duty” and vote for your favs! Of course there are several other categories and you can check out the full list and vote on the People’s Choice official web site.

October-list Paranormal Programming

Despite many of the fall shows already premiering, October tends to bring on some great paranormal programs. New season previews of “The Walking Dead,” “American Horror Story: Coven” and “Grimm” have been teasing audiences for months and are almost here. Brand new shows such as “Sleepy Hollow” and “The Originals” have already debuted but “Dracula” is lurking in the shadows.

Here is a list of some of the best in paranormal programming for this season...

“Ghost Adventures”
The GAC returned on August 16 and kicked off their eighth season. They recently aired their 100th episode and have a big two-hour Halloween special airing on October 31 at 9 p.m. ET. “Ghost Adventures” airs on the Travel Channel, Fridays at 9 p.m.

“A Haunting”
With only two episodes left in the sixth season, “Black Magic” (Oct. 13) and “Haunted Victorian” (Oct. 20), this Destination America series conveniently airs right before bedtime. Get spooked, Sundays at 10 pm. ET!

“Sleepy Hollow”
Fox's newest hit premiered September 16 and follows Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman in 2013. When the Horseman goes on a killing spree, Crane, who has to adjust to his modern surroundings, partners with Lt. Abbie Mills to fight this dark force. The show was recently renewed for a second season. Watch the remaining episodes on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.

'Once Upon A Time' spin-off casting news

Fans of ABC’s Once Upon a Time may have heard news about an Alice in Wonderland-themed spin-off
and will be happy to know that it looks like it's a go.

The project, which will take place in a pre-cursed Wonderland, is headed by Once creators/executive producers, Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, who are writing the pilot. Not only is Once: Wonderland happening, but it has already cast its Alice, her love interest and Knave of Hearts.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Australian actress, Sophie Lowe has been cast in the role of Alice. Alice’s character is described as "young but having lived a hard and long life and carrying those scars on her psyche. Underneath it all, she has a generous heart that she tries to keep hidden."

Meanwhile, Cyrus, her love interest with a mysterious background, will be played by newcomer Peter Gadiot. Michael Socha ("Tom" from the British version of Being Human) was also cast and will be playing the Knave of Hearts.

A teaser is scheduled to be shot in April and if well-received, it will move to pilot and be shot in late July or August. We’ll keep you posted on any more details about when the show will air.
