Lego Officially Announces 'Doctor Who' Set

Not a final product image, but fantastic nonetheless!

In recent years, especially with 2014's "The Lego Movie," the plastic blocks have been wildly popular. While I have personally never been a fan of them, nor understood the craze, as a Whovian, I may have to look into what the fuss has been about.

Lego recently announced the winning results of their Lego Ideas judging and will be producing their first ever "Doctor Who" set. The "Doctor Who and Companions" set will feature the TARDIS and various Doctors, along with companions, in minifigure Lego form. But what would any hero be without a villain or two to fight? Fear not, the set will also include some of the Doctors worst enemies; including Cybermen, Weeping Angels and, of course, the Daleks.

The set has just left the judging table, so as of now, final designs and a release date are unknown. Keep checking back here for all the latest Lego info!

'Super-Fan Builds' Dreams Up a Batmobile Stroller

You know how parents think their child is the awesomest in all the land? Imagine if you're bragging about your toddler and the Joneses you're trying to keep up with whip out their kid's Batmobile stroller and ask you to go for a walk. Your argument is then rendered 'invalid.'

According to Toyland.Gizmodo.com, the team that brought us that Groot swing everyone couldn't stop talking about (because it was awesome), created a fully functional (yet non-folding) Batmobile stroller based on the "Tumbler Batmobile from the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy." The teams is called Super-Fan Builds and the video is embedded below so you can check out what they did.

Now to get our nerdy little hands on one...even if we don't have a Batbaby.

Funko to Release 'X-Files' Figures in February

It warms my heart that one of my favorite shows ever, "The X-Files," has endured despite ending twelve years ago. Case in point, Funko is releasing Pop! vinyl figures depicting not only Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully but also an alien and The Smoking Man. But wait! There's more! Wacky Wobblers of Mulder and Scully will also be available but unfortunately, we have to wait until February of 2015 to purchase.  

Good news though, they're available for pre-order so maybe Santa can just present a receipt as a gift? The vinyls are $9.99 and the Wacky Wobblers are $12.99 and that's certainly a small price to pay to have this much awesome sitting on your shelf or...wherever, we don't judge.

New Funko 'Game of Thrones' Legacy Collection Figures Coming in October

The "Game of Thrones" Legacy Collection debuted this year at the New York Toy Fair and became "one of the most talked about Funko lines of 2014." Thanks to its popularity, Funko is continuing the collection by adding six new characters to the series. Not only do they look cool but each figure "...will feature 20+ points of articulation and include removable accessories."

The first wave included: The Hound; Tyrion Lannister; Jon Snow; a White Walker; Ned Stark; and, an earlier version of Daenerys Targaryen. This wave includes a more commanding Daenerys Targaryen along with her deceased love, Khal Drogo. Joining Dany and Drogo are, Jaime Lannister; Arya Stark; Brienne of Tarth; and, the King in the North, Robb Stark.

The latest series will be available for purchase in October. Which characters would you like to see if they make a third series? My votes are for Cersei and Hodor. Check out the figures next to their numbered boxes, after the jump...

Dancing Groot Available Soon From Funko

Hey there Funko and "Guardians of the Galaxy" fans out there! Look what Ryan Penagos (that's "Agent M" to you and me) just tweeted about! It looks like a dancing baby Groot figure has become a reality thanks to Original Funko and will be available before one that actually dances is released.

Penagos is the "Executive Editorial Director, at Marvel Digital Media. Writer, blogger, lover of tacos, tattoos, comics, video games, pop culture & cute stuff." and tweeted this update from his personal account. He also said that he has another Original Funko announcement coming this Monday, so stay tuned.

Regarding when you can get your hands on this little sweetie, he tweeted, "For those asking about when you can get your Dancing Groot--pre-orders will start real soon! Official price/release info next week!"

"Sharknado" Set to Join Funko's Pop! Television Vinyl Figures

"Sharknado," the pop-cult classic that just won't quit, will now be immortalized by Funko. The company announced earlier that in June, they will be releasing a Pop! Television Vinyl mini-figure based off of the Syfy original movie. The figure will be swimming onto retail shelves in June.

"Sharknado 2: The Second One," which is the first sequel for Syfy original films, takes Sharknado survivors April and Finn to NYC. Unfortunately for them, another Sharknado threatens Manhattan! You can catch the premiere July 30, on the Syfy channel.

Bif Bang Pow! Announces All-New 'The Twilight Zone' Action Figures

If you love "The Twilight Zone" and actions figures as much as we do, take note! An announcement has just been released that Bif Bang Pow! joined a "...creative partnership with ZICA Toys in conjunction with David Lee, makers of high-quality retro-style toys and action figures, to produce a line of "The Twilight Zone" 3 3/4-inch retro action figures scheduled to ship in the Fall of 2014." They've released others before but at 3 3/4-inches, they're the size of modern figures.

Which iconic characters from "The Twilight Zone" series will they be including? The release gives the run-down of the figures that include the following: "William Shatner's nervous airline passenger Bob Wilson and the Gremlin that wants him to crash, both from the terrifying episode 'Nightmare at 20,000 Feet;' the sly alien Kanamit from 'To Serve Man;' the Invader from Agnes Moorehead's 'The Invaders' episode; Burgess Meredith's avid reader Henry Bemis from 'Time Enough at Last;' and Talky Tina, the doll that spells doom for Telly Savalas in the 'Living Doll' episode."

The release also adds that the figures will be produced in classic black-and-white, matching Bif Bang Pow!'s popular 8-inch line of Twilight Zone figures, accompanied by an extremely limited edition color series.

"We're excited for our Twilight Zone action figures to be the first Bif Bang Pow! property to 'enter another dimension' in 3 3/4-inch scale," said Jason Labowitz, President of Bif Bang Pow!. "It's been great to work with a notable company like ZICA Toys to create these action figures for avid fans and collectors of the celebrated TV series."

The Twilight Zone 3 3/4-inch action figures are now available for pre-order at Entertainment Earth.

Funko Releases Images of New 'Game of Thrones' Figures

If you have a "Game of Thrones" fan in your life, your holiday shopping just became a bit easier. Funko has released images of their "Game of Thrones" Series 3 Pop! Vinyls. The new line features adorable figures of; Drogon the Dragon; Hodor; Ygritte; Brienne of Tarth; Tywin Lannister; Jon Snow's dire wolf, Ghost; and, King Joffrey Baratheon.

The toy company will also be adding second figures to the third series including, Tyrion Lannister and Daenarys Targaryen, with a new Jon Snow figure rumored. According to Toy Mania, the figures will be available on January 14th.

Live Action 'Monster High' Adaptation in the Works

For parents that want to share their love of horror, but keep it age appropriate, things are about to get a little easier. Recently announced, Mattel and Universal Pictures are teaming up to bring a live- action adaptation of the "Monster High" doll franchise to life.

While a plot is currently unknown, Variety is reporting that the adaptation was brought to the studio by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan. It will be written and produced by Fake Empire's Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, with Mattel's Playground Productions taking on the executive producing duties.

For those unfamiliar with the worlds most popular doll franchise, each one of them are related to popular monsters, specters and ghouls. The "Monster High" crew includes Draculaura, Clawd and Clawdeen Wolf, Frankie Stein, and Deuce Gorgon, to name a few. With spooky and hip style, these dolls are perfect for budding horror fans.

"The message about the brand is really to celebrate your own freaky flaws, especially as bullying has become such a hot topic," Mattel's Vice President of Marketing, Cathy Cline, told NPR earlier this summer.

So stay tuned, fine fiends, because we have a feeling that the kids of "Monster High" are about to get a lot more popular.

Funko Immortalizes 'The Goonies' In Vinyl

HEY YOUUU GUYYYYS! Funko Pop figures are bringing fans of 1985 classic "The Goonies" some fantastic new vinyl figures!


The line will feature your favorite crew from The Goondocks, including Mikey, Mouth, Data, Chunk and, of course, Sloth...

'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Classic Collection Launches Exclusively at Toys'R'Us

Cowabunga, dudes! An announcement from Playmates Toys named Toys”R”Us as the exclusive and ultimate location for the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” Classic Collection, which includes action figures and vehicles.

The collection will feature items that will take you back to when we first met Leonardo, Raphael and Michelangelo and Donatello in 1988. According to the press release, the six-inch action figures will “feature more than 30 points of articulation and are authentically detailed to appeal to the true action figure collector.” They’ll also include their weapons and a personalized sewer lid cover name base.

The six-inch original four will launch first and Bebop and Rocksteady will be released later this month. The four-inch action figures will be back too and will include not only the four main turtles but also Splinter and Shredder. The Foot Soldier and the Kraang will be released soon as well.

The pizza-loving mutants need to get around though, don’t they? The original group vehicle, the Party Wagon will also be available! It comes with “a radar dish and other techy gear, kids can open the top, place all the Turtles inside and they’re ready to roll!”

Another vehicle includes 2004’s Mech Wreckers. They’re described as, “real motorized walking battle suit figures that each come with the original Leonardo and Raphael action figures based on the look from the 1988 TV show.”

According to Manuel Torres, Senior Vice President Global Toys and Electronics for Nickelodeon Consumer Products, “We are thrilled to have Toys“R”Us as the official destination for our 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Classic Collection. Reintroducing the nostalgic toy line links the original fan base, with a new generation of Turtles’ enthusiasts.”

Furby makes a comeback, will consumers follow?

Did you own a Furby when the craze hit back in 1998? Did you love it or did it annoy the hell out of you? Well, either way, we’d like to let you know that this Autumn, Hasbro is unleashing a new breed into your homes ... if you allow it.

Thanks to an exclusive over at EW we’ve not only learned the name will be Furby Boom but we caught a glimpse of its egg.

Not much is known about the relaunched toy’s details so you can only speculate. What will it do? Will it talk all night long? Maybe it comes with its own established Twitter account? Who knows but if you’re a Furbling or have young children, you already know what to put on a Christmas list.

(Editor side note: Furbies are popular topics within the paranormal communities where -- in all likelihood -- dying batteries have led people to believing their little fur-covered robot things are posessed or haunted)

1989 'Friday the 13th' video game gets the NECA toy treatment

If you're like us, you have so many memories of the Friday the 13th Nintendo game… and most of them are bad.

Still, just the idea of playing a game based on the R-rated series was shocking. It wasn’t the best game, but it has a lot of nostalgic value for Friday fans. Thankfully the crafty devils at NECA are just as nostalgic! They recently revealed their newest Jason Voorhees figure in their Friday the 13th line as a tribute to that purple and blue 8-bit Jason!

The idea actually came from Will Edwards, a fan, who really dug the 1989 Nintendo look and tweeted images over to NECA. Turns out they really loved the suggestion. However, it’s only a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, and according to NECA, it’ll cost you $25 and will be available at their booth!

Steampunk coming to LEGO this summer

Hang on to your pith helmets and goggles because LEGO has just announced they are officially venturing into the increasingly popular fantasy world of steampunk!

For many years, enthusiasts have been using LEGO’s versatile plastic building blocks to create replicas of their favorite steampunk designs, typically featuring steam-powered machinery and a Victorian-era flair, a la the works of HG Wells and Jules Verne.

But according to this month’s issue of LEGO Club Magazine, the toy brick company is jumping on board the winged flying machine and into the brass-age this July and releasing the steampunk-themed Level 4 Master Builder Academy set. Each level of the Master Builder Academy includes three models with 13 designs, follows a particular theme and focuses on various advanced building techniques. For this level, LEGO Master Builders will be able to build realistic Victorian-era architecture, design their own inventions and merge the futuristic idea of time-travel with the historical feeling of steampunk.

The models -- "Travel to the Past," "You are the Inventor" and "Master Historical Designs" -- are previewed after the jump, along with the model images.

Transformers anniversary to include new 'fan built bot' character

Will a fan-made character be a prime draw for
the toy collector?

According to a press release from Hasbro, fans of Transformers will get to celebrate the "robots in disguise" 30th anniversary by creating a new Transformer character.

The "Fan Built Bot" poll, kicking off today and running through May 5, will introduce a character that will become an action figure in Hasbro's upcoming "Thrilling 30" toy line and appear in Transformers comics.

The release says the Pawtucket, Rhode Island, toy company is opening up voting to give "kids and fans the opportunity to make the 'Fan Built Bot' character with votes determining everything from being an AUTOBOT or DECEPTICON — to its vehicle or other mode, color, personality and more."

This is a first for Transformers since their beginning in 1984, so it is obviously the kind of promotion to get people excited. Hasbro also announced that fans would have a voice in naming the character, though those details will emerge at a later point.

"This is the perfect way to kick off our anniversary celebration and the 'Thrilling 30' line of special edition figures," said Jay Duke, vice president of the Transformers brand at Hasbro. "It will be tremendous fun for everyone to keep track of the entire process from the designing of the character; leading up to its introduction as a toy."

The results of the poll will be announced by Hasbro at this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego, as part of the official kick-off to the "Thrilling 30" anniversary celebration. Kids and fans will be able to purchase the “Fan Built Bot” character as a toy and will see the new character appear in official Transformers comic books.

Lucio Fulci 'Zombi' gets bobblehead worth devouring

Horror movie collectibles are the coolest thing there is. My room is covered from floor to ceiling in toys, posters and other horror movie memorabilia. Heck, even toy stores and comic shops are now playfully littered with them. Of all these collectibles, you can always find a bobblehead version of whatever it is you’re looking for.

Several companies produce these bobbleheads, but Aggronautix will be releasing possibly the coolest and goriest bobble to date. New batch of 'Walking Dead' McFarlane Toys emerges

Toy collectors and zombie-heads should start saving up for McFarlane Toys' next wave of Walking Dead action figures, debuting October 2012. Based on the AMC drama, the TV Series 2 includes shaved-headed Shane Walsh, a new Rick Grimes and three zombies - the RV Zombie (with the screwdriver in the peeper) and Well Zombie from season two, and the Bicycle Girl Zombie from season one.

According to the McFarlane Toys site, the anticipated zombie action poses from the figures includes (after the jump):

'Star Wars' gets monster mash-up

When you're an all-around geek like me who loves Star Wars and horror movie monsters, this kind of goodies just make your day. 

These bobblehead mash-ups from toy company Funko combines iconic SW characters Darth Vader, Yoda, a stormtrooper, Jawa and Tusken Raider with Frankenstein's monster, a vampire, zombie/skeleton, grim reaper and mummy.

The creature combos work really well, from a conceptual standpoint. Vader is really a creature of mad science, and what is a stormtrooper but a pretty mindless member of the horde? The Jawa reaper looks cooler than it sounds and the Tusken Raiders have always reminded me of mummies. Yoda doesn't strike me as a blood sucking type, but this menacing take on the little Jedi Master kind of works.

If you want to pick them up, the Jawa and Tusken Raider bobbles arrive in stores Sept. 20, but the rest are available now.

'Pocket God' toys on the way

Pop culture toy manufacturer Funko wants you to go on a little power trip with new Pocket God vinyls.

The toys are based on Pocket God, a "god game" where you manipulate islands of adorable Pygmies - and then smite them when they anger you, or you're just bored. The game is the fourth highest selling app of "of all time" in the iTunes App Store and is pretty darn addictive.

Available Aug. 30, the vinyl-toy collection of 16 ("Mysterio Minis") are blind box items with 24 pieces per product display. Each figure has a "rarity scale" that defines how hard it is to find and collect them.

From what I've seen, these things look pretty fun even if you haven't played the game (although I have, quite extensively). But there is a nice assortment of a zombie, ghost, vampire and skeleton Pygmy, along with 12 more.

Oh, and if vinyl isn't your thing, Funko will also be releasing plushy Pygmies.
