"Sharknado" Set to Join Funko's Pop! Television Vinyl Figures

Courtesy Funko
"Sharknado," the pop-cult classic that just won't quit, will now be immortalized by Funko. The company announced earlier that in June, they will be releasing a Pop! Television Vinyl mini-figure based off of the Syfy original movie. The figure will be swimming onto retail shelves in June.

"Sharknado 2: The Second One," which is the first sequel for Syfy original films, takes Sharknado survivors April and Finn to NYC. Unfortunately for them, another Sharknado threatens Manhattan! You can catch the premiere July 30, on the Syfy channel.

On an unrelated note, my birthday is in May...

Gamera Reboot Coming in 2015

On the tail of all the recent "Godzilla" news, it appears that a challenger has risen to battle for box office supremacy. August Ragone have reported that multiple Japanese publications, including Newtype the Live, have been sharing news of a "Gamera" reboot since this past February.

According to "Heisei Gamera: Perfection," a 304 page book that chronicles the post-1980s "Gamera" films, the new movie is already in pre-production, with an expected 2015 release. The story takes place in the present day, promising to bring the other giant Kaiju to life with a "surprising new form." Producer Shigenori Takatera is helming the project, onboard with Kadokawa pictures.

Originally released in 1965 to cash in on the success of "Godzilla," it's certainly no surprise that "Gamera" is returning to rampage and destroy once again! Stay tuned for more information, because as the tagline currently states..."something is out there."

Behind the Scenes Look at "Sharknado 2: The Second One"

Courtesy Doug Meszler/Splash News
Earlier, the Daily Mail shared some behind the scenes photos from the set of "Sharknado 2: The Second One," and while April and Fin may have escaped unscathed from the first "Sharknado," it doesn't look like they're so lucky this time around.

The photos show our hero, Fin (Ian Ziering) toting his now eponymous chainsaw, while April (Tara Reid) is sporting an arm sling and some bandages that appear to be concealing an amputated hand! Currently there is no further information on the potentially disfiguring plot point, it looks as though filming of the Syfy original sequel is proceeding swimmingly.

Reid revealed that she was one of many people that were shocked by the films popularity, stating "I'm just as surprised as everyone else. Come on, I did it as a joke! I didn't even think anyone was going to see it. And then what happened has never happened before on any movie. Even now, you thought the buzz was going to stop about 'Sharknado,' but it just keeps going."

Tweeted by Reid: "#sharknado2 help me! Lol"
She also hints that the upcoming sequel may be even more campy than the first, saying "And the one we’re shooting now in the city, you think, 'How can it be worse than the first one?' That’s the only way it can maybe work. We’ll see what happens."

After the literal overnight success of the Syfy flick caused a social media feeding frenzy, the executive decision to create a sequel (a first for Syfy original movies) was set in motion. "Sharknado 2: The Second One" takes place in New York City and is set to attack the airwaves in July, 2014. Check out the rest of the gallery after the (shark) jump!

The pair have teamed up to breathe new life into the underrated story of Midian and the monsters that reside within. According to the synopsis, "The Nightbreed is a secret society of monsters and misfits that hide away from humans, but have been a part of this world since time immemorial. What if you've never watched the film or read the novella "Cabal," on which it's based? Fear not. Andreyko reveals that "I’m writing the book to be both fully accessible to new readers and hit the spot for long-time fans of the property. The pitch: Monsters are real and they live in our world. Some in plain sight, others find refuge in the ancient city of Midian. “Nightbreed” will chronicle tales—past and present—of these creatures and how they survive in a world that hates, fears, and wants to destroy them. From ancient Greece to colonial America to the world of today, there be monsters here."

Kowalski provides some of the panel art in addition to cover art for the first issue, and will be joined in the future by artists such as Mike Mignola, Riley Rossmo and Christopher Mitten. The first issue is 32 pages of fully colored, nightmarish beauty and will available for $3.99 in May. For more information, check out the full interview over at Multiversity Comics!

'Star Wars: Episode VII' Gets a Script

In a sit down with The Wrap, director J.J.Abrams reveals that a script for "Star Wars: Episode VII" has been completed. "We're working really hard and we've got our script and we're in deep prep,[...]full steam ahead, y'know."

While speaking at a press event for his new NBC show, "Believe", he also confirmed the rumor that they have been talking to actor Jesse Plemons about a role in the upcoming Star Wars sequel. On a bean-spilling spree, Abrams also confirmed that the new movie will be shot on regular film, as opposed to digital or IMAX film. He stated that IMAX cameras are "very loud ... very unreliable," are restrictive due to their reel lengths, and despite previously applauding the IMAX format, it is difficult to shoot intimate scenes with the cumbersome cameras.

The newest "Star Wars" installment will take place after the events of "Return of the Jedi," last in the original series, and is set for a December 18, 2015 release.

'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark' Coming to the Big Screen

Every kid that grew up during the early 90s, hold on to your Trapper Keepers, because "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" will be heading to the big screen! According to Deadline, CBS Films has optioned a screenplay from Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan of the "Saw" films.

Melton and Dunstan are poised to take some of our favorite short stories and rework them into a tale about a group of misfit kids who have to save their town when their nightmares start becoming reality. Sean Daniel and Jason Brown of Sean Daniel Company, and Elizabeth Grave of 1212 Entertainment, will produce the feature. Roberto Grande and Joshua Long will act as executive producers but a director has yet to be named.

Drawing from folk lore and urban legends, author Alvin Schwartz created the most memorable horror anthologies for kids, selling over seven million copies world wide. Between 1981 and 1991, Alvin Schwartz terrified children everywhere with his scary tales. Not to mention the nightmare-inducing artwork by Stephen Gammell.

While there is currently no news on exactly which stories will be included, we can only hope that "The Red Spot" and "The Hook" are included. Which of your favorite tales would you like to see included? Let us know in the comments!

'Silent Night, Deadly Night' Returning to Theaters in December

To help dull the pain of another Halloween passing, Fangoria and Brainstorm Media are bringing "Silent Night, Deadly Night" back into theaters, making for a holly, jolly hackmas!

From our pals over at Fangoria:

FANGORIA, together with Screenvision and Brainstorm Media, are thrilled to announce the re-release of the controversial, ultra-bloody anti-Holiday slasher favorite "Silent Night, Deadly Night," opening wide across the country in theaters everywhere!

Released in 1984 to outrage and parental paranoia, director Charles Sellier’s killer Kris Kringle creeper tells the tale of a tot who, on Christmas Eve 1974, sees mommy kissing Santa’s axe as a lunatic invades their home and murders his family.  Growing up in an abusive Catholic orphanage, the poor put-upon lad grows up to be a similar psycho in a Santa suit and goes on a bloody rampage.
The film will be fully uncut and re-mastered, better to see every inch of those deer antlers penetrate poor Linnea Quigley’s breastplate.

Silent Night, Deadly Night" will open on December 4th and show through December 17th. Head on over to FANGORIASCREEN.com for listings of specific theater locations and to purchase your tickets.

Don't be naughty and miss out!

Alien collectible cups bursting onto scene

It doesn’t matter what shape or form it is in, anything collectible from the Alien franchise is really cool. They are the most fearsome, vicious and coolest looking creatures in the galaxy.

I wish I had rooms in my house designed to look like I live on the Nostromo, but I will settle for nifty little collectibles like these cups being released by Super7, which we first learned about from Dread Central. You may notice the style of these glasses makes them look as if they are cups you got from Burger King in the '80s (even notice how the Super7 logo kinda looks like BK’s?).

Read on for the official statement below and keep your eye out for these suckers! Stay Frosty!
Inspired by vintage "Fast Food" glasses, these four glasses from Super7 present a memorable scene from Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror movie Alien on the front side, featuring colorful artwork created exclusively for this gift set. The backs reveal the four-part lifecycle of the Xenomorph – the menacing Alien creature itself. This collectible set includes: The Space Jockey, "Big Chap" aka The Alien, Kane’s Chestburster, and Ripley & the Airlock. Each 16-ounce Pint Glass measures approximately 5 ¾" tall. $49.99 Boxed Set of Four.

New trailer for Rob Zombie's 'Lords of Salem'

It’s been a while since theaters have had the pleasure of a Rob Zombie film on their screen. Now we know that his latest film from Anchor Bay Entertainment, Lords of Salem not only has a release date (April 19) but also a new trailer.

Written and directed by Zombie and produced by the Paranormal Activity franchise triumvirate of Jason Blum, Oren Peli, and Steven Schneider, Lords of Salem stars Zombie’s wife (a staple in his films), Sheri Moon Zombie.

Here is the official site’s synopsis:
Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie), a blonde rock chick, DJs at the local radio station, and together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster) forms part of the ‘Big H Radio Team’. A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, “a gift from the Lords”. She assumes it’s a rock band on a mission to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords’ record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma. Later, Whitey plays the Lords’ record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with listeners. The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon Heidi and her cohorts find that the gig is far from the rock spectacle they’re expecting; the original Lords of Salem are returning, and they’re out for BLOOD.
