Honest Trailer Released for 2014's 'Godzilla'

The fine and funny folks over at the Screen Junkies YouTube have just unleashed an Honest Trailer for this past summer's "Godzilla." I think the Honest Trailer actually features more Godzilla than the actual movie but you can be the judge.

Check it out and let us know what you think. They're always good for a laugh.

'Godzilla' Dominates the Box Office and a Sequel is in the Works

In an exclusive over at Deadline, they received confirmation this morning that Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. are already developing a "Godzilla" sequel and Gareth Edwards will return to direct. This is no shock since the iconic monster dominated at the box office this weekend with the largest opening of 2014. So far, the film has grossed $103 million internationally and $93 million domestically and the weekend isn't over yet.

Deadline mentions that "Edwards has talked about what he would do with a sequel, saying he would use the same kind of restraint that he did for this one. He learned well from watching Spielberg films as the monster was only talked about for the first part of this film." We're obviously unsure which monsters will rise up to fight Godzilla and when the film will be in theaters, but we'll keep you posted.

Were you one of the millions who contributed to the success of the film this weekend? What are your thoughts on "Godzilla" and are you excited for a sequel?

Giant Monster Disaster: Why Godzilla Can't Kick Our Ass -- Conversely, Why Godzilla Can Totally Kick Our Ass

2014-05-16-Godzillarampage.jpg

BY AARON SAGERS

In the monster blockbuster reboot Godzilla, when the iconic kaiju and his radioactive cousins stomp onto U.S. soil, they have to contend with the force of the American military. In expected man vs. monster action, our armed forces unleash hell in an attempt to save cities and bring down the beasts. But if it were to happen in real life, good ol' Gojira and pals would also have to deal with Dorothy Lowry.

Although she prefers the title "Duchess of Disaster," Lowry, RN, MSN, is Senior Associate of Public Health Disaster Preparedness and Response for The Olson Group, Ltd., a private company that supports local, state and federal government entities. Lowry -- a former Army nurse and medic with 16 years of service who focused on mass casualty care -- basically gets paid to think about, and prepare plans for, the worst case scenarios to hit mankind and to save "small chunks of the world at a time."

"Not wussy disasters, either," she said. "I do the big ones."

And she also just happens to be a pop culture nerd. So, with Godzilla back in full force on our movie screens, it seemed like a good time to chat with the disaster expert about concerns associated with monster attacks. In the following interview, she reveals the larger concerns with large creature attacks (kaiju poop!), why Godzilla is like other natural disasters and how the zombie apocalypse fits in.

Honest Trailers Stomps on 1998's 'Godzilla'

We're really excited for the "Godzilla" that's being released in theaters this Friday but remember that disastrous Roland Emmerich version that tried to remake the 1954 classic. Sort of? Well the good folks over at Screen Junkies Honest Trailers answered the wishes of fans and just released their take on the 1998 film. They're, as usual, spot-on with their observations and best of all, they send best wishes to Heisenberg for box office success this weekend.

Check out that Jay Leno-chinned, chicken-legged beast and all the havoc and bad acting that ensued and let us know what you think of this latest Honest Trailer. Oh and be sure to head to theaters this weekend for what we hope kicks this Godzilla's ass.

Monster vs Monster in New 'Godzilla' Trailer

As a reward for our Godzilla roars, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures has released an Asian market trailer for "Godzilla" and it was worth the laryngitis. "Whatever it is, they're guarding so carefully."

Wait...was that Rodan flying by that window? The action, destruction, pain and suffering, and overall awesomeness of the beasts, yes, beasts, is staggering. And the trailer seems to confirm that Gojira will be released to battle another monster threat! "God help us all."

Enough said, just watch and then run to theaters on May 16.

Gamera Reboot Coming in 2015

On the tail of all the recent "Godzilla" news, it appears that a challenger has risen to battle for box office supremacy. August Ragone have reported that multiple Japanese publications, including Newtype the Live, have been sharing news of a "Gamera" reboot since this past February.

According to "Heisei Gamera: Perfection," a 304 page book that chronicles the post-1980s "Gamera" films, the new movie is already in pre-production, with an expected 2015 release. The story takes place in the present day, promising to bring the other giant Kaiju to life with a "surprising new form." Producer Shigenori Takatera is helming the project, onboard with Kadokawa pictures.

Originally released in 1965 to cash in on the success of "Godzilla," it's certainly no surprise that "Gamera" is returning to rampage and destroy once again! Stay tuned for more information, because as the tagline currently states..."something is out there."

International 'Godzilla' Trailer Reveals... A Big Flying Monster?

The international trailer for 'Godzilla' features a little less Bryan Cranston freak out or foreboding philosophical ponderings from Ken Watanabe than the super-sized awesome trailer, so you might reasonably be wondering what it DOES offer to make it worth a post.

Aside from a few glimpses of, presumably, Gojira, we see a BIG. FLYING. SOMETHING. At around 1:19, there is monster in the skies. Any guesses as to what it might be?

The new "Godzilla" movie trashes theaters this May 16.

Snickers Tames a Hungry Godzilla in this New Ad

The latest "You're not you when you're hungry." commercial for Snickers proves that Godzilla is a pretty cool dude, well, until he gets hungry. The iconic monster goes from fun-loving babe-magnet to screeching, property-destroying menace but is quickly satisfied when he gets Snicker-ed.

Check out this new ad that's promoting the May 16 release of "Godzilla" and let us know if you get as destructive as he does when you're hungry!

First Full Look Of Godzilla On Empire Megazine

What do you put on a mega-sized issue of your movie magazine? Well, if you're "Empire," then Godzilla seems like a monstrously good choice.

After unveiling a special subscriber issue a couple days back, movie mag "Empire" unveiled this Godzilla-tastic MEGAZINE cover (which is 30% larger than a normal issue) with the first full-on look at the King of the Monsters! It is an appropriately large shot of director Gareth Edwards' take on the classic kaiju.

With this and yesterday's trailer, I am officially stoked for May 16, when the movie opens. And the special collectors' megazines, measuring approximately 26cm by 34cm, will hit stands tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 27.

What do you think of this look at Tokyo's beast?

New 'Godzilla' Trailer Unleashes Nuclear Lizard Hell

Are you ready for the rampage yet? If not, you will be after this new "Godzilla" trailer that just left me in a puddle of nerd drool.

In the second official trailer, which will hit theaters March 7, we get a very upset Bryan Cranston
outing the idea that there has been a cover-up on what we assume are recent monster attacks. Instead of a natural disaster, he shouts that whatever is "out there" is "going to send us back to the Stone Age." We then get glimpses of that wreckage, including the Statue of Liberty (sorry, New York City, we have not been spared this time) and then a lot of partial shots of likely Gojira emerging from the water.

The trailer seems to suggest more of the origin story of Godzilla with a voiceover by Ken Watanabe tell how, in 1954 (the year the original "Godzilla" film was released), "we awakened something." Further, nuclear tests in the Pacific weren't tests, but an attempt to kill the creature. Military action appears to be put in motion, but while fighter jets are tossed out of the sky and there are mysterious monster bones (and eggs?) -- on Monster Island, right? Right? -- Watanabe continues: "The arrogance of man is thinking nature is in our control and not the other way around."

Towards the end of the trailer, we are treated to a partial Godzilla roar that transitions into a crescendo of tension sound effects and then: The best clear shot of the king of monsters roaring face, through a pair of closing bunker doors.

Godzilla is on its way May 16, 2014, and I am super super stoked. Watch the trailer and let me know if you are too.

Celebrate a Monstrous 60th Anniversary with 'Godzilla: The Japanese Original'

Can you believe it was 60 years ago that that glorious Thunder Lizard, "Godzilla" stomped and screamed its way into our hearts? Thanks to Rialto Pictures, "Godzilla: The Japanese Original" has been restored in an uncut, undubbed and uncensored form to thrill old and new generations of fans. This version will premiere at the fifth TCM Classic Film Festival on April 12 in Hollywood, followed a by national release (beginning at New York’s Film Forum, April 18-24) from Rialto Pictures.

"Godzilla" is revered as one of the "greatest science fiction/monster films ever made, boasting still-impressive special effects, as the radiation-breathing prehistoric monster, awakened after millennia by Hydrogen Bomb testing – and impervious to repeated shelling by the Japanese army – wreaks destruction on Tokyo." The groundbreaking film became Toho Studio’s #1 box office hit of 1954.

Leaked 'Godzilla' Teaser Trailer Available Again...For Now

Courtesy IMDB
The teaser trailer for next summer's "Godzilla" was first shown exclusively at San Diego Comic Con last July and since then, Legendary Pictures has been trying to keep the Internet-leaked video away from our prying eyes. Well, it's back and worth a peek before it gets taken down again.

The eerie overlay of the words of "father of the atomic bomb," J.Robert Oppenheimer, set against the massive destruction the giant fire lizard has unleashed, shows the grand scale of this Gareth Edwards-directed film.

The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche, and David Strathairn. The screenplay is by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham. A Warner Bros. presentation, "Godzilla" is scheduled to be released in theaters, May 16, 2014.

New Comics, June 19: Zombies (and vampires) and 'The X-Files' returns

BY DAVID BERCK

There is plenty of stuff to talk about this week, but we've managed to distill the excitement down to a few featured titles. Aspen is beginning a new series with their flagship character, Aspen Matthews, bringing together a bunch of characters from their multiple spinoff serieseseses. It's kind of like having Mork, Mindy, Laverne, Shirley, Joanie and Chachi all come back for a season.

Except better.

Max Brooks' new series about the conflict that would rise should vampires collide with zombies. The X-Files also returns to comics and our hearts with the beginning of season 10! And, lastly, we wrap up what has been promised to be a universe altering series in Age of Ultron from Marvel. It's certainly been universe-altering within the alternate world, but how will it affect the main Marvel universe? So much to see! Let's get to it!

Casting, story news ramps up 'Godzilla' rampage

Summer 2014 is expected to be monstrous when it comes to what we’ll be seeing in the movie theaters. Films like The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Transformers 4, and The Hobbit: There and Back Again are scheduled for release. But how will they stand up to the king of all monsters Godzilla.

As was announced with a surprise teaser at Comic-Con, the Japanese thunder lizard is coming back to theaters with Gareth Edwards directing the reboot. Its official release date is May 16, 2014, and thanks to an exclusive over at Deadline.com, we’ve learned that Aaron Taylor-Johnson from Kick Ass and Kick Ass 2: Balls to the Wall is slated to get the human lead in the Legendary Pictures film.

According to the site, Johnson "won’t make a final decision on whether or not to take the offer until he sees the final polish that Frank Darabont is writing based on the Max Borenstein script." Fans of the AMC series, The Walking Dead may recognize Darabont as the one of it’s creators and controversially fired showrunners. Darabont was replaced by Glen Mazzara (who was also just controversially fired from the show).

There seems to be much controversy surrounding who will be on the Godzilla production team, but it looks like Mary Parent (Pacific Rim) is just about done finalizing a deal to be on board.

According to Movienewz.com, "The reboot will pay respects to the 1954 original about a fire-breathing monster, mutated due to atomic radiation exposure, that wreaked devastation on Japan but then defended the nation in later films from attacks by other monsters. The reboot promises to be a more 'realistic' and 'serious' nontraditional sci-fi take on Godzilla."

Are you excited to check out the new and improved Godzilla? Or do you still have a bad taste left in your mouth thanks to the 1998 remake? What monsters would you like to see Godzilla battle? We’ll keep you posted on all the latest news on the film.
