'Sleepy Hollow' Recap: 'Blood and Fear'

BY: DAWN FEAKES

Due to technical difficulties, lack of any short term memory and life in general, I can't remember much about last week so we'll just say that stuff happened and go from there. Abbie might have had a fling at Quantico and Crane might be a bit jealous and Jenny might be bringing Joe Corbin on board Team Witness. The second tribulation is underway so let's do this.

Pandora's being creepy, talking to herself again. Girlfriend needs to get out of the sewer for a bit; might cheer her up but no, she wants, nay, needs the fear of the Witnesses. And a sacrificial knife. As one does.

It's been a long wait but we're finally back! Well, except for Katrina the Struggle-Witch, Henry/Jeremy of the Epic Daddy Issues and Captain Frank Irving for reasons we really don't know. Yet. The Horseman of War has been defeated but Death, Famine, and Pestilence still prowl the dimension. Get your Ichabbie shipping ready because it's time to do this.

Even with Katrina dead, Sleepy Hollow can get no relief from witches as a new power lady in town puts Death in a special box to generate her very own fear demon. Meanwhile, a dude runs through an ally before being rudely stopped by a trash can lid, wielded by none other than our favorite 'Leftenant' Abbie Mills. With a new haircut and a new partner. Wait, what? She's finally made it to FBI traning in Quantico, achieving all she's ever dreamed of. But where's Crane? Ah, in jail. Sigh. It was only a matter of time I suppose. She bails him out but not before being rather put out that she's had no contact with him for nine months as he was off doing a walkabout and then getting nailed by Customs trying to bring an artifact from Scotland back into the country. Oh, what we wouldn't have given to see Crane attempt to navigate the labyrinth of airports, security and airplane boarding. He's got street cred now, for what it's worth. It won't help two fellas who got into a fight while drinking however, as the demon is attracted to violence. Really dude? Drunk guys arguing over a woman is what draws your attention? Yawn.  Let me know when you make the jump to Triple-A ball.

Fox Announces Fall Primetime Programming Plus 'The X-Files' Premiere

The major networks recently did some drastic housecleaning but clearly they were just making room for more programming (much to the chagrin of some fans). Now, we can take a look at Fox's fall schedule and see when our favorites TV shows, old and new, will be available for our viewing pleasure.

The one we X-Philes, and "Sleepy Hollow" and "Gotham" fans have been waiting for is the Fox schedule and now it's available thanks this press release. In addition to the new "The X-Files" mini season, Fox continues to provide us with a plethora of paranormal pop culture including the new shows, "Scream Queens," "The Frankenstein Code" and "Lucifer."

Regarding the much anticipated return of "The X-Files," here is what the release has to say:

The next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES debuts with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jan. 24 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, and continuing with its time period premiere on Monday, Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The thrilling, six-episode event series, helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter and starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY, marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.

Fox's 'Sleepy Hollow' Renewed For Third Season

It looks like Fox has given an early renewal for it's supernatural drama series, Sleepy Hollow. Deadline is reporting that the show will be back for a third season despite some floundering in season two.  The Glades creator, Clifton Campbell will be serving as executive producer and will replace Mark Goffman as its new show runner.

According to Fox TV Group chairman Dana Walden, the network is striving to continue to impart some fun into their new shows, “We want to get back to something that feels a little bit more episodic in nature, it has become overly serialized. We are trying to return the fun to it a little bit.” This is evident in the network's renewal of the gritty series and fan-fav, Gotham.

Fox entertainment president David Madden lauds the Sleepy Hollow's new showrunner, “He is an excellent producer, and we can’t wait to see what this team has in store for Season Three."

So some fresh ideas are on the horizon for the modern-day adaptation of Washington Irving's short story. We'll keep you posted on any new developments and it's season three premiere date.

Last week Katrina went full-on evil after the death of Henry so of course the only logical thing to do was head to the past and not save Ichabod in the first place but Abbie hitched a ride and ended up in colonial Sleepy Hollow which, given it was a good 200 years before the Civil Rights Act, well, let's just say it's not a happy match. I'm not ready to say good-bye to Crane, Abbie, Jenny or Irving yet (though Katrina can go hang for all I care.) (See what I did there?) Let's do this.

On the fateful battlefield, Crane is given notice that a strange woman has information for him that will change the course of the war. Sigh. Fine, what do you want? I know of your special mission and the Hessian. By pulling him off the battlefield, Crane missed his date with destiny and Katrina is distraught that Crane isn't in the hospital for her to kill. Ungrateful bastard. Dude, I'm trying to save your life and the world here. All right, the short version: you were supposed to die on the battlefield and end up in suspended animation until we meet 200 years in the future and now things are screwed up so we have to unscrew it. You know, no big deal.

You guys, things go downhill quickly when you're no longer certain of whom your allies are. Let's do this.

A massive psychic blast rings through the town square possessing three people but it passes as quickly as it arrived. Ah, it was Henry. Enough said. But what is he doing this time? As if that's not enough, Jenny catches up with Crane and Abbie to let them know that Irving's been compromised. My, the news just keeps getting better and better but one crisis at a time please.

The victims were all in the same vicinity but were in total fugue state. Strange, it seemed like Serilda, Andy Brooks and Solomon Kent in that they all exhibited magical powers. And there is this bell here which was cast from the same one as in Philadelphia. The famous crack? Ichabod of course. But it was for a secret mission for General Washington so drink your drink. The bell causes people to display powers of witchcraft so Katrina would be the logical expert except not so much. She's been a bit distant recently, you know, doing blood magic to call Henry to her. The darkness released, he sees her as an ally, not an enemy. I killed Moloch to save you Mother and I have so much to tell you. Tea?

Last time Katrina the Struggle Witch continued to struggle, so hopefully she went to magic camp so we don't have to deal with her uselessness tonight. Let's do this.

Mere mortals from a local engineering company traipse through the tunnels which always means they are not long for this world. Finding a secret passage they investigate and discover a mysterious seal so of course they open it only to be attacked by Insane Clown Posse rejects. I hope they get overtime for this. Crane and Mills get called on the case where a pushy journalist who is also the brother of one of the missing men gets up in Abbie's grill. He's realized that Sleepy Hollow is the new Sunnydale and that an awful lot of people go missing here. Calvin, hon, that's really not the best way to get her to help you...or ask her for a date.

Checking out the tunnels they find the engineer's equipment and the mysterious seal complete with claw marks and symbols of witchcraft. Do you: A) proceed or B) regroup and call for back up? If you answered anything but 'A' then you've never actually watched this show before. Only one man could have designed this chamber and no, not Franklin. Thomas Jefferson! New name drop so drink your drink. The selfie culture is good for one thing as one of the dropped phones shows an albino ROUS dragging the men into the hole. Too bad he didn't get a chance to 'Instant Gram' it.

Sigh. This is going to be a Katrina-centric episode, isn't it? Dammit.

Last week Hawley was guilt-tripped then betrayed by foster-mama and Crane and Abbie made far greater strides in fixing their relationship then Crane and Katrina have. Irving is free and all hell is about to break loose. Let's do this.

Opening in a museum or auction house or anything place old rarely leads to anything good and the streak continues. A dirty, hat-wearing stranger appears, steals a book, and cuts himself to do the blood magic force choke on the unlucky employees still around. Surely there are easier ways...like waiting until everyone's gone. Oh, evil. So impatient

It's House Hunters: Hellmouth as Crane is looking for a house that is not the catacombs. His attempts at playing it cool are sabotaged by the baked goods. Real estate agent - 1, Crane - 0. Though you might want to, you know, establish some credit or something. Anyways, there was a double murder at the auction house and a book was stolen! Not just any book, (of course) a grimoire that belonged to John Dee, noted Elizabethan scholar and student of the occult. Hm, whom to consult with on this? I hope she won't be too useless. The expert in question is currently changing flower petals and throwing rocks. No, not useless at all. Sigh.

After last week's Crane and Katrina Scooby-fest we've got Hawley, karaoke, and relationship talk tonight. Let's do this.

Nothing relaxes hard-working Witnesses more than some karaoke with Jenny and Hawley in a double-date. Which it isn't because Crane and Katrina are totes back together and Abbie does not want to talk about it. Hawley's gotta bail though, there are deals to be made but alas, he just got Lando Calrissian-ed big time as his foster mom Carmella wants some help with one last job: robbing Theodore Knox's estate, you know since I raised you and everything.

Sorry to break up the party kids but Hawley's not back and someone's broken into the archives. Good thing because Crane was about to follow up with a drinking song. But priorities guys, archives before all. Good news though, Hawley was the one who broke into the archives. Two birds, one stone and all that. Momma Carmella's got something going on with her teeth though and she may want to get that looked at.

When we cold open on a new character, we know they are not long for this world and that honor tonight goes to a man named Grant as he's cleaning a painting when it starts bleeding. Bandages, stat! Le'ts do this.

It's date night for the estranged Mr. and Mrs. Crane...at a historical society. You know what's fun? Bowling. Bowling is fun. They should do that. Anyway, Abbie gives Crane good advice to not mention the Founding Fathers, Ben Franklin or his fling with Betsey Ross. Oops. Crane knows Grant, the restorer because of course he does and Katrina was totally besties with Abigail Adams whose house they're at because of course she was. Date night's interrupted by Katrina being impacted by magic and a presence. Nice try but still not liking her. Moving on.

Hey all, welcome back! Did you have a good holiday? Just to get everyone on the same page, Hawley was babysitting Abraham, Henry killed Moloch for not loving him enough and Katrina survived (dammit.) Let's do this.

After the battle against Moloch, the crew wakes in the woods to find Henry gone. This...is rather unlike him. Crane can't rest though, there must be some evil to fight that doesn't include speaking to Katrina. Abbie humors him but is clearly thinking about the future post-Witness. It may be important but it sure doesn't pay very well. You know the old saying that if you look hard enough for trouble you'll find it? Well they do in the form of demons looking to summon their master but out of the darkness who should arrive but Batman, er, Orion. Crane shockingly doesn't immediately take to the new arrival but that could be because Katrina just decided she needed him. Leftenant, hang with our feathered friend please. TTFN.

It's time for the second half of the mid-season finale. Let's do this.

Time is running short and Abbie and Crane are in a hurry so of course power surges disrupt all electronics. What's a pair of Witnesses to do? Continue on via motorcycle of course to the manor where Katrina was (is) being held captive. There's a model of the town and with dots connected it looks suspiciously like a pentagram as described in Washington's bible. Drink. But is it too late? Well if by 'too late' you mean that your wife has been chained in a fiery pentagram by the Horseman of Death, then yes. Crane is having none of that nonsense though and takes on Headless with Methusela's sword, besting him. With Headless "looking" at the business end of the sword, it's make or break time for Katrina: you gonna stop your husband from killing Abraham or do you need a few more minutes to decide where your loyalties lie?

Headless or not, Abraham doesn't want to die again (still) and stalls with the bomb drop that all magic has a cost and the sword will claim the bearer's soul. Huh. That could be a problem. She'll need time to research the claim. Of course. But in the meantime, lock him up. Y'all remember how well that worked last season, right? Now Katrina, work your 'magic' and gather intelligence. And I just sprained my eyes by rolling them too hard. Shockingly enough, Jenny comes through with the research confirming Abraham's story, relegating Katrina once again to 'trophy-the-boys-are-fighting-over-and-no-one-understands-why.' Let me get this straight: they can't use the sword without killing themselves? How will that help? But what about someone whose soul was already claimed? Could they use it? Yo, Captain Irving: how you feel about a little payback? But more importantly, can Crane and Katrina keep out of the way if it becomes necessary to kill Henry to get to Moloch? Spoiler alert: not so much.

Well, here we are. Part One of the "Sleepy Hollow" mid-season finale. Let's do this.

Desperate to clear their minds, Crane and Abbie play a Guess Who game when Katrina appears in a mirror to tell them that she's failed - Moloch still lives. Henry though is able to activate her connection and listens in as the cobwebs shake loose and free association leads them to the anagram of Enoch's Sword. Dammit Katrina, this is why you always clear your browsing history! Jenny and Irving are on the run for the border but Sheriff Reyes is hot on their tail so Abbie lets her sister know. Think you can kiss that FBI transfer good-bye now Leftenant. But back to the matter at hand, the sword of Enoch which was actually Methusela's sword given to Enoch to cut down 1000 demons. Ben Franklin (drink), hid the map to the spot where the sword lies in the symbolism of a snake which matches up exactly with a river. How enterprising of him. But they must know themselves completely or they will perish according to the prophecy. So it's like Mjolnir then but more deadly.

'Sleepy Hollow' Recap: 'Mama'

So many feels this week you guys. Let's do this.

There have been a rash of suicides at Tarrytown Psych where Jenny, Irving and Mama Mills all spent time so Sheriff Reyes assigns the case to Abbie with a free reign. Naturally. Her usual trusty sidekick seems to have fallen victim to the dreaded man-cold and the inability to open child proof containers, clearing the way for the Mills ladies to work their magic. Their allies? A lovesick Hawley, a felled Crane and Captain Irving who is fighting his own demons. Literally.  Viewing the security footage of the most recent suicide, they notice a figure in the the corner and it's Mama Mills, back from the grave. Hoo boy. Well, we know that Mama's demons were real but why cause others to choose the same death she chose?

When one white man falls, another will rise to take his place. Enter Hawley, purveyor of maps, charts and special matzoh ball soup for Crane. Clearly in Crane's time this would have meant that they were engaged. General Washington is named-dropped so drink your drink. Not you Crane, you're going sleepy-bye.

Last week on "Sleepy Hollow," Henry impregnated his mother, Katrina the Useless Witch, with a Moloch-spider. I wonder what sort of trouble she'll get into this week. Let's do this.

Oh the insidious nature of daytime TV but it does force Crane and Katrina to address the secret elephant in the room - trust. Or lack thereof. You know Katrina, for someone who wants to earn back her husband's trust, you could try to be a little more sincere. While you two have been dancing around the relationship issues, Abbie's been busy tracking Henry who seems to have taken up pottery and organ collection. He's turned over a new leaf? Nah, just raised a succubus who likes nightclubs and nerds. Poor guy. Crane still wants to try to redeem Henry who doesn't seem to want to be redeemed but never mind that - father knows best.

Abraham and Henry enjoy a nice cuppa when the succubus returns and vomits out the soul into a chamber. Jeebus, Henry, you dismiss her without putting her back? Well that's just sloppy. What's this? Katrina is being semi-useful in identifying the cause of death but oh. Oh dear. She just had a fainting spell. Can you make me some quince tea dear? Abraham always had it around and it did calm my nerves. Sorry Leftenant, you are on your own with this one; I must attend to my untrustworthy wife. Where does she go? Hawley (again) who gets shot down (again) and butthurt (again.) No one is having a very good night here.

Last week Sheriff Corbin's son Joe was revealed to be a Wendigo in an elaborate plot by Henry to recover a hidden bottle of super demonic Chinese poison to be used to raise a spider. Everyone clear? Good, let's do this.

Katrina flashes back to sexy times with Ichabod when everything starts going woozy. This is why you should limit your consumption of poison spiders before bed. Meanwhile, Crane gets to see democracy in action as it's Voting Day though is disappointed with the lack of turnout. Preach, my man. Katrina thinks Abraham poisoned her but no, it's her loving son Henry. Abraham's like, but she was just about to crack! Alas, Moloch doesn't tolerate disobedience very well and by not very well I mean not at all. It's a Horseman throwdown which is great except for the whole being incapacitated by the sun thing. She escapes to a gas station where she collapses in pain and fear. Damsel in distress? Check.

Last week on "Sleepy Hollow," Crane came to the realization 250 years too late, that a relationship based on secrets and omissions might not be the strongest foundation for a marriage and the Abbie-Ichabod-Hawley love triangle deepens. Let's do this.

What does one do when the crushing realization sets in that one cannot trust one's wife? Yoga and barring that, beer. Alas, Abbie and Crane's libations are interrupted by a bar fight perpetrated by none other than former Sheriff Corbin's son Joe home from Afghanistan. No homecoming cheer though as he has a major mad-on at Abbie for siphoning off his father's attention as a charity case. Well, this has been a fun chat. Abbie's forlorn as she used to baby-sit him but no time to reminisce, there's a creature on the loose that tore Joe's party apart. Joe's okay...or is he?

Last week on "Sleepy Hollow," we followed the Pied Piper to his underground lair of revenge and Captain Irving discovered just how slimy lawyers can be. Let's do this.

Finally we discover how Crane keeps the same clothes - he has a period reenactor make them for him but alas, Miss Caroline is falling hard. Oh that Ichabod, so smooth with the ladies. Speaking of ladies, his main lady Katrina sends him a crow message right before Abraham barges in. Let me get this straight: you don't trust her but still want her to choose you willingly? Uh, yeah. Threats are vair sexy. How much does Abraham not trust her? Enough to engage Henry to put the kibosh on her witchcraft so she willingly plays the part Moloch wrote for her. A chance to cause his parents pain? It looks like Christmas came early for Henry.

And we're back. Last week we met Hawley, the privateer version of Indiana Jones, while battling a Judas-coin wielding Henry. Let's do this.

When a child goes missing at night, you can usually assume abduction unless of course you live in Sleepy Hollow when it's naturally demonic possession. But none of that's as scary as Ichabod getting driving lessons and treating it like a real life "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift." Fortunately he stops driving before checking his phone for incoming messages. This one's an Amber Alert and they're on their way except Abbie's driving. Good call. The Lancasters are an old Sleepy Hollow family with a terrible curse which has claimed their youngest child Sarah. Ichabod is still banned from investigations so he skulks in the bushes waiting for Abbie to go investigate the woods where they find blood spatters. No bodies around but she does find a bone which Ichabod then proceeds to blow into because what else would a hollow bone be but a flute? (Also: gross.) Crane, your playing is so fine it put Abbie into a trance and he makes a shocking pronouncement: this is no ordinary flute! (No kidding.) Sarah was lured into the woods by a creature of legend - a Pied Piper. To the library! (Sorry, wrong show.)

Last week on "Sleepy Hollow," Sheriff Reyes locked up Jenny, Ichabod and Abbie raised the Kindred and Henry became Captain Irving's lawyer. Let's do this.

Abbie and Ichabod go to visit Captain Irving but alas, they aren't on the approved list courtesy of his new lawyer. After locking Jenny up for having the weapons, Sheriff Reyes then gets her released for community service so that was a pointless exercise altogether. Abbie and Crane track Henry via the cab service he used to right outside the bank. Their amusing different world interlude over same sex relationships versus wearing hats indoors is rudely interrupted by the sound of shots fired. Investigating, Abbie finds one of the tellers has snapped but her efforts to talk the woman down are upstaged by Sheriff Reyes taking her down. That's one way to end a standoff I guess. But what is that that fell from the dead woman's hand?

Outside the bank, a man's face goes in and out of shadow so good news, its not our eyes. But what does it mean? Going through the security camera footage shows Henry changing coins for cash and the teller pocketing one of the coins. Suspicious. But wait, Crane has seen this before (of course). Name dropping time so drink your drink. This explains why Benedict Arnold turned so suddenly and ruthlessly; he was possessed by a demon coin that their commando team was supposed to get rid of. Naturally. It's telling that Abbie accepts this rewrite of history with little more than a shrug. She's going to start correcting the local populace soon at this rate. This means that Henry is circulating this coin to turn the tide of the war.
