New Trailer for 'Blair Witch' Director's Bigfoot Film, 'Exists'

Back in 1999, Eduardo Sánchez directed a little something called "The Blair Witch Project" for a very little amount of cash. The found-footage film did pretty damn well (made for $25k and took in about $240 million) and became one of the most profitable independent films ever made. Fast forward 15 years later and now Sánchez is tackling another woodland menace...Bigfoot.

"Exists" is not a documentary-style film but just the recordings of a group of young folks who go camping in the woods and encounter the elusive beast. When will people learn that camping tends to lead to mayhem? Combine that with some sexy time and that's a sure-fire recipe for disaster. According to Blastr, the film stars: Dora Madison Burge ("Friday Night Lights"); Samuel Davis ("From Dusk Till Dawn"); Denise Williamson ("Friday Night Lights"); Roger Edwards ("Captain Phillips"); Chris Osborn ("Lone Star"); and, Brian Steele ("Hellboy") as the Sasquatch.

Here's the film's synopsis...

For five friends, it was a chance for a summer getaway— a weekend of camping in the Texas Big Thicket. But visions of a carefree vacation are shattered with an accident on a dark and desolate country road. In the wake of the accident, a bloodcurdling force of nature is unleashed—something not exactly human, but not completely animal— an urban legend come to terrifying life…and seeking murderous revenge.

The film is being released on iTunes and in theaters on October 24. Will it be as popular at the Blair Witch? Probably not, but as a rule, don't mess with Sasquatch.

'American Horror Story: Freak Show' Teaser Trailer: 'Head to Toe'

Courtesy EW
A contortionist with three legs goes toe to head in this newest "American Horror Story: Freak Show" teaser trailer exclusive from Entertainment Weekly. She's beautiful, bendy and boasts an extra limb just like the swinger in the "Spotlight" teaser that was recently released.

What do you think of these teasers? FX is certainly being generous. Do you think we'll be seeing these characters in the series or are they just meant to freak us out? AHS returns on October 8 at 10 p.m. ET. Here's a series description compliments of Variety:
“Freak Show” begins its tale in the quiet, sleepy hamlet of Jupiter, Florida. The year is 1952. A troupe of curiosities has just arrived to town, coinciding with the strange emergence of a dark entity that savagely threatens the lives of townsfolk and freaks alike. This is the story of the performers and their desperate journey of survival amidst the dying world of the American carny experience.

'Defiance' Recap: 'I Almost Prayed'

Courtesy Syfy
BY DAWN FEAKES

Here we go, the second part of the "Defiance" season finale. Let's do this.

Picking up right where we left off, the onslaught of purple fire continues burning and destroying New New York. Nolan tries to explain to Cai what is going on: in a nutshell, you and Irisa are connected and controlled the Arkbrain. She's got both keys now so we have to get one out and you are the way to do that. Aren't you lucky?

Datak is in a great mood - he's returning home. But oh, Pilar came to pay a visit and she wastes no time taunting Datak and Stahma about their mean beginnings as a magician and a toilet bowl cleaner. I'm not scared of you two; that's wonderful Pilar. Now take your unfortunate son and get out of town. Yes, I'm sure that will work very well, thanks for that Datak.  Pilar gives Alak and Christie a civics lesson on what whill happen to their half-breed child but hey, there's a utopia only 300 km away. And they have horses. Horses I tell you! She let's slip that Datak has been welcomed back home and they rush home to do...what? Not sure but Quentin calls his mother out on making up utopia. She doesn't deny it and clearly Pilar's elevator doesn't go all the way to the top. Christie is apoplectic that Datak is welcomed back after what he did the Alak and Stahma and way to go guys, you just made them both Team Pilar as there is no way Alak is now going against his wife.

'Defiance' Recap: 'All Things Must Pass'

Courtesy Syfy
BY DAWN FEAKES

Last week on "Defiance," Christie offed Treasure Doll and Nolan's energy disruptor fixed everyone but Irisa who took it out on Tommy after he did nothing but love her. Good going Irisa. Let's do this.

Stahma won't let Datak back in the house but has no problem letting him in...other places but it's to further her agenda which Datak actually seems to get. The sticking point? Her running the business; having his wife pretending she's smarter than him smarts. Oh Datak, there is no 'pretending' involved here.  His feelings hurt, he throws Stahma and they both get kidnapped. A house divided against itself blah blah blah.

Nolan's dragging Tommy through the woods to get him back to Defiance for healing. Things aren't looking good as Tommy hallucinates about when he first met Nolan and what a dick he was. Tommy, you're not wrong. Taking a break, he reveals Irisa's diary with Cai's picture and we get a flashback to Cai and Irisa being joined in the Arkbrain. Cai jerks awake. Oh, hello there!

'American Horror Story: Freak Show' Teaser Trailer: 'Caged'

What's in the cage? Courtesy EW
FX is sure keeping us on our toes with these teasers for "American Horror Story: Freak Show" and this latest one is a bit...cagey. Sorry. A caged human, creepy hands and a menacing captor. Why is this happening? Do you really want to know? Perhaps it's one of the attractions? "Birds of a feather...shock together."

We have to wait until October 8 at 10 p.m. ET to watch all these creepy teasers get fully realized. Until then, stay tuned here for the eerie glimpses into the freak show.

Michael Myers is paying a visit to Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights starting September 19. Here are more details from the release. Universal's Halloween Horror Nights runs from September 19 to November 1. We're also including a complete overview of all the attractions (after the jump). Let us know if you plan on making the trip!

New Teaser For 'The Walking Dead' and the Promise of a More 'Grown-Up' Season

Courtesy TWD Facebook Page
The newest 15-second teaser for season five of "The Walking Dead" features a surrounded Tyreese in a quaint little home in the woods. So he's not at Terminus. Check. It's brief but tense and hints at the intense season that awaits. Doesn't it seem like at the beginning of the past season, they build up the tension and say how brutal the upcoming season will be?

Last season (at least the second half) left us with no fingernails and Andrew Lincoln recently old Entertainment Weekly in an exclusive that this was kid's stuff. Lincoln said, “We’re really earning our rating this season. There are families that watch it together, but just so it’s on the record, guys—it’s a grown-up show this season.” EW was on set to get a closer look at this season and this week is offering four exclusive covers with the full story. Here's a little bite from executive producer and creator of the comic, Robert Kirkman, “By minute two or three of our season premiere, I think the vast majority of our questions have been answered, and five or six more have been presented, so you’re very much going to be invested, well-informed, and ready for the ride that we’re going to take you on.”

After the jump, check out the teaser and then pics of the exclusive EW covers that you can run to your local mini-mart to grab. They promise, "New Characters!" "Freakier Zombies!" and "More Kissing?" Of course, tune in on Sunday, October 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Click here for the full trailer.

Elijah Wood and Spectrevision to Produce Zombie Film, 'Curse the Darkness'

Courtesy IMDB
Elijah Wood and his partners at Spectrevision will be taking on zombies in their next project. Wood, along with Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller will produce the “anthropological zombie film," Curse the Darkness. They are currently in the process of casting the film which The Hollywood Reporter says "will take its cues from purported real-life roots of zombie, which involved chemically-induced slavery widely practiced by plantation owners around the Haitian Revolution of 1803."

Filming is to begin on October 27 in Louisiana and according to the film's producers, Curse the Darkness is "set against the modern day backdrop of undocumented workers laboring in the Louisiana sugarcane fields, the story is a terrifying look at the systematic exploitation of the labor force by large corporate entities, as well as a portrait of the plight of undocumented workers in the United States.” Jorge Michel Grau (The ABCs of Death) will be directing Brandon Maurice Williams' screenplay.

Elijah Wood gave the statement, “We always said we wanted to stay away from the zombie genre, as it’s been so well covered, but when we read Brandon’s script, we encountered a take on the genre that simply had to be realized. Curse the Darkness is both a chilling exercise in horror and an incisive polemic against the conditions of illegal immigrants in this country.”

We'll keep you posted on when the film will hit theaters.

Weird Al's Emmy Performance Gave New Life to Popular TV Theme Songs, Including 'Game of Thrones'

Type faster!
HBO's "Game of Thrones" had a ton of Emmy nominations (59 to be exact) this year but one of the statues was not given to Peter Dinklage for his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister. So, boo. But big congrats to Aaron Paul ("Breaking Bad") for that win in the 'Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series' category.

So anyway, Weird Al made an interesting appearance and put his spin on the theme songs of some of the top shows this year. Included in the performance were parodies of "Mad Men," "Modern Family," "Scandal" and "Homeland." Of and of course..."Game of Thrones." You can check out that performance below and if you would like, jump to minute 1:38 for the start of the "Game of Thrones" segment which features SNL alum, Andy Sandberg as King Joffrey. During the GoT song, he encouraged author, George R.R. Martin to speed up his typing so they could get more scripts. See above for the fun gif of that command, compliments of The Huffington Post.

Matthew McConaughey Rumored To Join 'The Stand'

M-O-O-N, that spells Alright, alright, alright

The big screen version of Stephen King’s mammoth end of days novel "The Stand" has been in the works over at Warner Bros. for quite some time -- with only a few whispers of developmental details every now and then (remember when Ben Affleck was attached to play Stu Redman?). However, Deadline has given us a little tease of what we can expect, on the casting end, anyways.

Warner Bros. has expressed a desire to see Matthew McConaughey slip into the Texas tuxedo of Randall Flagg, played so wonderfully by Jamey Sheridan in the 1994 made-for-TV movie version of "The Stand."

Randall Flagg, as most King fans will know not only from "The Stand" but also his appearance in "The Dark Tower" series, has been described by the studio as "the personification of evil."  While McConaughey has been showing his range as an actor for the past few years now, can this seemingly affable leading man pull of playing Satan himself?  Hopefully now, with a big name circling around the production, we will find out sooner rather than later.

'The Strain' Recap: 'For Services Rendered'

Courtesy FX
BY DAWN FEAKES

Last week on "The Strain," we met Vasily's dad, saw Eph sprung from the FBI and Abe took charge of his reluctant group of believers. Let's do this.

Joan's husband returns home from his business trip to make a detour to the country club bar so he clearly missed his wife a lot. The nanny warns him his wife is sick and she has the kids and you many not want to come home. Nonsense. Home, Jeeves. Ruffians have invaded Westchester though and he barely escapes to the safety of his home. Joan, I love what you've done with your hair; it's so Beetlejuice meets The Joker. What honey, don't you have a kiss for your wife?

In Abe's workshop of horrors, the new master plan is discussed and no Eph, the six o'clock news is still not an option. Eph cannot suspend his disbelief that to end the infection, all they have to do is the Master and the rest die. That's not how biology works; that's not how any of this works! Eph, you are dealing with vampire worms; your argument is invalid.

'True Blood' Recap: 'Thank You'

Courtesy HBO
BY DENISE PURVIS

Ummm, no thank you. This episode of "True Blood"…well, I will let you make your own assumptions. Keep in mind that this is the last episode you’re ever going to see.

Bill & Sookie
Sookie is pissed off with Bill because he won’t seek treatment. She sees his nostalgia as regret of letting himself die. Bill tells her that he loves her so much that he wants her to have a normal life. He tells her that she’ll never have that with him, and he requests that she use her fairy light on him so that she can have a normal life, and he can die quickly.

Sookie has flashbacks to when she was a little girl hanging out with Tara. Even back then she couldn’t see a future for herself. She goes to see Jason about Bill’s request and runs into Bridget. She reads her mind and finds out that they didn’t sleep together and that she’s a little torn up about Hoyt, not to mention that she thinks Jason is sweet.

Since Bill is dying, Sookie can hear Bill’s thoughts. Or, I guess that is why she can hear Bill’s thoughts. I guess that makes her feel less hateful towards him. She tells Jason that Bill was thinking everything that you want a person you love to think.

'Doctor Who' Recap: 'Deep Breath'

BY NOWAL MASSARI

After what seemed like a nerd-ternity, the series eight premiere of "Doctor Who" has finally arrived. As with all post-regeneration Doctors, we enter the first episode with a touch of sadness and slight caution. As pointed out by Chris Hardwick and Wil Wheaton on "After Who Live," we nerds are living in a post-Phantom Menace world and we do not like change. However, we always warm to the new Doctor as time goes forward (or backward). So now, hold on to your sonics and take a "Deep Breath."

"Lick" Up the Second Teaser Trailer for "American Horror Story: Freak Show"

Yum!
The teasers for "American Horror Story: Freak Show" are parading in and if this second one is any indication of the level of creepy, we're more than a little excited. Will they keep getting progressively creepier? Fingers crossed.

The first teaser rolled out a couple of days ago and now we've been treated to a "Lick." Enjoy the split (or to be technical, bifurcated) tongue and sorry if you start to crave sweets all day. You wanted to look away but couldn't, didn't you?

The fourth season of the FX series premieres at 10 p.m. on October 8.

New Paranormal Period Drama, 'The Living and The Dead' Coming to BBC America and BBC One

BBC America and BBC One have announced that they've greenlit a new six-episode 60-minute period drama called "The Living And The Dead." The drama will be co-written by BBC "Life On Mars" creators Ashley Pharoah and Matthew Graham, who will also be executive producers alongside Faith Penhale, and Katie McAleese. It is co-produced by BBC Wales Drama Production and BBC America in association with Monastic Productions for BBC One.

Details and setting from the press release:

Somerset, England, 1888. A land and a community on the edge of monumental change, on the great hinge between ancient traditional ways and an industrial, scientific future. A land of ghosts and myths, poltergeists and demons - if there was ever a time for those ghosts to rise out of the ground, this would be that time. At the heart of this small community is Nathan Appleby, a reluctant gentleman farmer who is obsessed with proving the existence of the afterlife.

In the new original drama, this complex and compelling man will investigate hauntings, paranormal happenings, and ghostly visitations, encouraged by the Society for Psychical Research. But as these terrifying investigations become ever more frequent and ever more scary, Nathan starts to see and hear disturbing things that he simply cannot have imagined. Will Nathan’s interest in the occult begin to threaten his family, his livelihood and even his sanity?

The cast of the new series has not yet been announced but according to Pharoah and Graham, “We are as excited about this show as anything since 'Life On Mars' and 'Ashes To Ashes.'" They promise scares and lots of emotional punch as well, “We want it to be moving, tender, sensual — and very, very scary.” No news on a release date but it is reported that the show will be distributed worldwide by BBC Worldwide. The release states that, "It will shoot in the West Country of England next year and casting will be announced in due course."

We'll keep you posted on when you'll be able to catch this latest scripted ghosty show from BBC.

The latest film in the long-standing franchise (number 12 to be exact) that is "based on true events" is coming to haunt theaters on January 2, 2015 and its first trailer has been released via Yahoo! Movies. "Amityville: The Awakening" stars Cameron Monaghan as James, the severely injured son of Jennifer Jason Leigh and brother of brooding Bella Thorne. The home on 112 Ocean Avenue is close to a good hospital and despite its dark past, will prove to be a super duper place for him to recover and not be possessed by evil. Where's dad though? It's probably for the best. Dads don't do very well in this home.

The trailer is super creepy and perhaps this film has potential to scare and entertain? Check it out below and let us know if you're ready to another trip to Amityville.

'Defiance' Recap: 'Doll Parts'

Courtesy Syfy
BY DAWN FEAKES

Last time Quentin freed Mom but betrayed Rafe and Irisa betrayed everyone and freed no one. Let's do this.

Treasure Doll seems to have gotten over the breakup with Alak as she's very happy to see someone visiting her in the Arch whilst doing her radio show. That someone isn't that happy to see her as she gets tossed of the top of the Arch. Hm. I wonder who it could be? Amanda is called to identify the body and wants Nolan to investigate but no can do sweetheart. His mentally disturbed daughter has gotten hold of a terrasphere so that kinda takes precedence over a dead hooker. Well fine, give me a badge and I'll do it. All righty then, Deputy Amanda Rosewater is on the case. First stop the Arch where there are the remains of a special picnic. Alak, were you sleeping with her? Huh? No, no, she was just an employee. So you won't mind if we look through this hidden video camera...after we find the memory card. If Alak could grow paler, he would.

'Defiance' Recap: 'Bottom of the World'

BY DAWN FEAKES

And we're back! Picking up steam here so buckle up and hold on tight. Let's do this.

At the E Rep field office, Operation Silver Tongue is "go." This involves Irisa stealing a glowing orb and she would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for that damned father figure. Oh girl, you are so grounded. But Dad, I needed it to cure Sukar. You need a Terrasphere to cure Sukar. How's that going to work? It's, uh, complicated. Irisa, you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I'm glad to see Alak taking time from his busy shtupping schedule to announce that Ambassador Kennedy has arrived. Oh, you remember her; the delightful lady with two disposable husbands. Fortunately, she buys in bulk at Costco. Anyway, Treasure Doll wants more than just his kit and kaboodle but ain't nobody got time for that. He loves his wife and see ya. Oh snap, it's about to get Fatal Attraction around here because she won't be ignored Dan Alak.

Full 'Annabelle' Trailer Arrives

The big, creepy doll behind the glass case in Ed Warren's office that made her debut in last year's "The Conjuring" is getting her own movie, out October 23-and the full trailer has made it's debut!

"Annabelle", loosely based on the actual Ed and Lorraine Warren case from the 1960s (the original Annabelle was a Raggedy Ann doll-but I can understand why the Raggedy Ann people wouldn't want their product featured so prominently in a horror film) gives us a look at the terror a possessed object can create. Dread Central gives a nice synopsis of the film:

"John Form thinks he's found the perfect gift for his expectant wife Mia-beautiful, rare vintage doll in a pure white wedding dress. But Mia's delight with Annabelle doesn't last long.

One horrific night their home is invaded by members of a satanic cult, who violently attack the couple. Spilled blood and terror aren't the only thing they leave behind. The cultists have conjured an entity so malevolent that nothing they did will compare to the sinister conduit to the damn that is now Annabelle."

Sounds like something you should probably leave the kids at home for!

Stephen King's 'A Good Marriage' Trailer

The latest entry in Stephen King's movie-adaptation repertoire is "A Good Marriage," based on the short story from King's 2010 collection "Full Dark No Stars."

Dread Central gave us a look at the poster and trailer for the upcoming movie earlier today.

The tale of "A Good Marriage" is, in the grand scheme of things, a study on how we truly don't know who we are married to-could the person we sleep next to at night with trust and abandon be a straight-up serial killer?  In this case, yes.  But the true story lies in with what happens when the wife discovers her husband has been operating as a serial killer for the better part of their twenty year marriage.

Anthony Lapaglia and Joan Allen star as husband and wife in "A Good Marriage" and you can catch the flick in limited release and Video on Demand on Oct. 3.

International Poster for "Horns" Debuts

"Angel or Demon?" asks the international poster for the upcoming movie "Horns" en francais.

Ain't It Cool News debuted the new "Horns" poster yesterday featuring a be-horned Daniel Radcliffe bathed in a white light-adding a lot more ambiguity to the film-and not damning the protagonist as much as the American version of the poster did, which instead stated "Love Hurts Like Hell."

Based on the novel from Joe Hill, "Horns" tells the story of a young man accused of brutally murdering his girlfriend, something he can't quite remember if he did or not, who begins to sprout some spectacular demon-esque horns from his head. The film is directed by Alexandre Aja, best known for directing the remake of "The Hills Have Eyes." Juno Temple and Heather Graham star alongside Radcliffe in the movie out Oct. 31.

Megan Fox Believes In Bigfoot, Ghosts and 'Everything' Else

Say what you will about Megan Fox, I can't help but like the gal.  Sure, her film choices have been questionable, to say the least, but she has recently come out of the paranormal closet as one of us (ONE OF US!  ONE OF US!).

While promoting her latest film, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," Fox sat down with MTV News's Josh Horowitz to discuss the the movie when the conversation took a turn for the supernatural.

Horowitz asked Fox to expound on her Bigfoot beliefs, something she first made public back in July to People Magazine. Citing recent scientific discoveries and the perceived  intelligence of the Bigfoot creatures (Bigfeet?) along with their ability to stay out of sight and evade capture as a few of the reasons why we have yet to have any solid proof of their existence. Fox used these reasons as a defense of her beliefs, much to the amusement of Horowitz.

Horowitz then went on the ask Fox if she believed in UFOs, "Yes, a thousand percent." She said, before adding, "I believe in everything."

The most entertaining part of the interview came when Fox's recent ghostly encounter while on vacation in Mexico with her children and nanny was shared. Fox said the evening beforehand she order a breakfast room service to be delivered at 7:30am. When she heard the door open, the sound of plates being set and coffee being poured at 7 a.m. -- a full half hour before the service was to arrive -- she waited until the commotion died down before going to eat. When she went to the dining area of her hotel room, nothing was there. No plates, hot coffee or breakfast of any kind. Her nanny even asked, "Why was room service here at seven?"

Fox believes since both her and her nanny heard the phantom breakfast service being prepared, there can only be one explanation for it: ghosts.

Fox is a good sport during the interview, especially when Horowitz teases her and  tries to offer rational explanations for her to consider regarding her paranormal encounter in Mexico.

Thanks to our friend Alejandro Rojas over at Huffington Post for bringing this fun story to our attention!

Slender Man Comes Alive in New Short Film

Despite the recent tragedy in Wisconsin, the Slender Man myth remains as popular as ever, inspiring a short film based around the Internet created monster from Freeze Frame Films production company.

"The Eidolon State" a 20-minute short film, will make its debut  on YouTube on August 29, but you'll be able to catch the official premier on "Dread Central" on August 27, thanks to a partnership between the online magazine and Freeze Frame Films.

Directors Dion Cavallaro and Paul Thomas told Dread Central the goal in making this film was to stay as true as they could to the Slender Man story that first made its appearance on CreepyPasta-a short story horror forum. "Originally we were going to call our antagonist The Tall Man, but ultimately decided The Slender Man was more fitting and favorable with the fans."

The short film also stars actress Sarah Pike and the film's producer, Cain Harrip, pulls double-duty also portraying Slender Man himself.

The filmmakers went on to praise Dread Central for their support of not only the horror film industry, but also the independent film community. "We are glad to have collaborated with them, and would not hesitate to do so again in the future."

We just may have another "Candyman" on our hands!  Check out the trailer below:

We're pretty excited about Z Nation, a 13-episode zombie series premiering on Syfy Friday, Sept. 12, 10 p.m. The horror show looks like a fun and gory roadtrip adventure, and that's a damn fine start. Read more about it and watch the latest glimpse above:
Z Nation starts three years after the zombie virus has gutted the country, a team of everyday heroes must transport the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood. Z Nation stars Harold Perrineau, Tom Everett Scott, DJ Qualls, Michael Welch, Kellita Smith, Anastasia Baranova, Russel Hodgkingson, and Keith Allan. Karl Schaefer will service as executive producer and show runner.

Zak Bagans Promises To Go 'Big' With 'Ghost Adventures' Season 10

"We’re going big this season." According to lead investigator Zak Bagans, that's the mission of Season 10 of Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures.

So if you were under the impression that the paranormal team was already pretty big in their approach, Bagans added in a statement what he means for the milestone season, which premieres Saturday, Oct. 4, at 9 p.m.:

"As Nick, Aaron and I dig deeper to capture compelling evidence, we’re instituting a variety of new investigation tactics, experiments and equipment."

In a press release, Travel Channel announced today the "investigative trio" of Bagans, Nick Groff, Aaron Goodwin (along with Billy Tolley and Jay Wasley) head to the ocean liner/paranormal tourism destination Queen Mary, docked in Long Beach, Calif for their season premiere. Additionally, the adventurers will visit Lemp Mansion in St. Louis, MO; pursue the Zozo demon in Oklahoma City which has plagued Darren Evens following a Ouija board session; explore the Island of the Dolls in Xochimico, Mexico; and pursue the roots of Halloween in Ireland for a two-hour Oct. 31 episode called "Celtic Demons," where they'll hit Leap Castle, Hell Fire Club and Loftus Hall.

"From the massive Queen Mary ship in California to Ireland’s Leap Castle and Mexico’s Island of the Dolls, each location is embedded with layers of paranormal activity to explore," said Bagans.

Also, the show experience will continue online with the Ghost Adventures Fan Lair. The Lair returns on Sept. 26 and provides fans with an interactive destination with GAC photos, social media streams, etc. And on Oct. 31, the network will host a Google Hangout with Aaron Goodwin and author Jeff Belanger immediately following the two-hour Halloween special.

And for an extra Season 10 treat, the guys have a shiny new show open, which we're proud to show off here for the Queen Mary episode -- and you can even get a sneak preview of the terrors they think they've uncovered on the ship.

What do you think? Are you ready for Oct. 4 yet?

Yahoo! Movies Breaks Down 'The Roots of Groot' in a New Infographic

Dancing Groot courtesy Yahoo!
Summer loves are always memorable and for the summer of 2014, many of us have fallen in love with the same...tree. Yeah, that big, branchy, lovable, Groot from "Guardians of the Galaxy" has no doubt, captured out hearts. Just say, "We are Groot." to someone who's seen the film and you might as well just pass them a Kleenex.

The fun folks over at Yahoo! Movies also took an interest in the Marvel-ous timber and noticed some similarities to some other beloved movie characters. They stated, "As we were watching Guardians, we saw shades of multiple cinematic creatures including Edward Scissorhands and his long, piercing fingers, E.T. and his shimmering eyes, and Chewbacca and his garbled roar that only Han Solo seems to understand. We decided to break down all of Groot’s movie ancestors in one handy infographic."

Check out "The Roots of Groot" below and let us know not only if you agree with their observances but if you can think of any other characters similar to Groot.

Important Life Lesson From George R.R. Martin

Some days, you just have to put a Robot Chicken on your head, wear a goofy expression and take whatever life throws at you. Yes, it's a lesson I learned well when I interviewed George R.R. Martin. And you're welcome, Internet. - Aaron Sagers

'Devil's Advocate' Coming to Primetime As Legal Procedural

"Suits" meets Satan!  Sorta.

It looks like Warner Bros. Television is working with NBC to turn the 1997 movie "Devil's Advocate" into a legal television drama, according to "Entertainment Weekly."

If the only thing you remember about "Devil's Advocate" is Keanu Reeves questionable southern accent, allow me to refresh your memory: Originally a novel by the same name, it tells the story of a young, upstart attorney beginning a new job when he is quickly taken under the wing of the Lucifer-esque senior partner of his new law firm.

If American television audiences love anything, they love the procedural show (just look at the shelf life of something like a "Law and Order") "Devil's Advocate" could certainly be getting a two-for-one deal of the procedural audience and the supernatural television fans, however, the EW article does make note of the recent difficulties network television has been having selling the devil in prime time-citing, most recently, the disappointing ratings for the "Rosemary's Baby" miniseries starring Zoe Saldana and the failure of "666 Park Ave." But keep in mind that NBC is launching the supernatural-themed "Constantine" this fall. If that hits big enough, you'll likely see more faith in this project. Not to mention, Warner is the production studio behind long-running hit "Supernatural."

Beyond the production announcement, not much else has come out surrounding the "Devil's Advocate" TV series.  I know I'm excited to see who could fill Al Pacino's scene-chewing shoes in the role of cleverly named John Milton for the television version.

Could it be.....Satan?  Sorry, I had to.

'The Strain' Recap: 'Occultation'

BY DAWN FEAKES

Last week on "The Strain," Eph went on the run, Mama Martinez had the best plan for busting out of the nursing home and Vasily strongly reconsidered ever going back into the tunnels again. Let's do this.

It's the countdown to the occultation and the crazy is gaining strength. I just hope they bring back Elvis. We finally see who is the mostly naked chained up guy. It's no one we know but Eichhorst has him as his own personal soda stream. Geez man, couldn't you have put your face on for dinner or something?

The FBI is looking for Eph so they arrive at Kelly's house. She has no idea where he is because separated, remember? Plus the live-in boyfriend thing. But they're not stupid as Eph is skulking around the cars to get to her. Across town, rival exterminators taunt Vasily about being scared of what's in the tunnels. Yeah, pretty sure he doesn't care what you think guys; he's got his notebook and that's that.

Sam
Sam decides to hit the road with Nicole so that he can see his baby grow up. He leaves Sookie a touching note. He tells her that he and Nicole are heading to Chicago and that she is invited to come up after the baby is born.

Sookie
Bill refuses to explain why he won’t take the antidote from Sarah to Sookie or Jessica. Jessica is sad and Sookie is pissed and keeps slapping Bill. Jessica makes Bill release her. Bill delivers a lovely speech then lets her go.

Ol' girl is having a pretty bad day. First she has to endure Bill refusing an antidote to his Hep-V then getting the Dear John letter from Sam. She delivers the other letter to Andy, and offers to stick around in case he needs a shoulder to cry on. Turns out that it’s just a resignation letter.

Sookie is too depressed to join the little celebration at Bellefleur’s. Sookie asks Arlene how she keeps moving on since she’s had so many failed relationships. Somehow Arlene’s five minutes of advice perks Sookie up, and she joins the table for dinner.

Ghost Box Creator Frank Sumption Has Died

Frank Sumption, the inventor behind the paranormal investigating device known as "The Frank's Box" has reportedly died of a heart attack.

The "ghost box" Sumption invented in 2002 was claimed to be an instrumental trans-communication (ITC) device that allowed users to speak to the dead The Others in real-time. The box swept the AM radio band and supposedly the sounds that were being picked up on the constant scan included spirit voices.

Sumption was a fan of electronic voice phenomena, an interest he developed after reading a 1995 Popular Electronics article. Although the Colorado resident did not seek out celebrity for his invention, the "purple princess" (a moniker he picked up after communicating with spirits, who told him he was a female alien from Pleiades) was famous within the paranormal community.

He did not really dedicate himself commercially to selling his devices. Instead, he randomly distributed them to those he and the voices saw fit. A genuine Frank's Box is a sought after novelty in the paranormal community, and his Sumption's creations, of which he made only 180, led to a ghost box/ITC craze.

While his work had its detractors and many claimed the sounds from the device were subjective (and the results untestable), there is no denying the man had an enormous impact on paranormal investigations. A variation of a Frank's Box -- adapted by other researchers and inventors -- can be found in the basic tool kit for most modern ghost hunters.

Personally, Frank sometimes had a prickly persona online but was considered a warm and quirky guy known for being a dog lover.

Tim Woolworth of ITC Voices has an interesting profile of Sumption, along with audio recorded in April on a Frank's Box where The Others were said to be calling the man home.

Son of John Landis Breathes New Life into the 'An American Werewolf in London' Transformation Scene

Thank you, Bloody Disgusting!
I loved the 1981 John Landis werewolf flick "An American Werewolf in London" and had a major crush on David Naughton so imagine my sheer delight when I discovered this "Homemade Movies" version of the film's classic transformation scene. Of course, being 33 years later (what?), the special effects in this video are obviously far superior.

This gem was directed by Travis Betz who teamed up with Cineflix, and it stars Max Landis, son of John Landis. According to the YouTube info, "It was recently John Landis’s birthday, and son Max has decided to give him a very special birthday present: stepping into David Naughton’s shoes and re-enacting the transformation scene from 'An American Werewolf in London.' We probably won’t win an Oscar for Best Makeup for this homemade effort, but it’s the thought that counts, right?"

Anyway, enjoy Max's amazing performance (you can check out the side-by-side) and delight in the sheer horror of the makeup. You're welcome.

'The Babadook' is Coming For You This November: New Trailer Released

Courtesy IMDB
Do you guys remember way back in January when we posted a trailer for the creepy Sundance entry, "The Babadook?" Of course you do. Well now there's a second official UK trailer out for the Jennifer Kent-directed-and-written film and we've learned (via Bloody Disgusting) that the film will be released here in the States on November 28. If you live in the UK, you luck out on October 24. The book mentioned in the film will also be able to read soon...even if you just click here, you can hear him call out to you. He has quite a lovely voice.

Synopsis:
Six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia (Essie Davis) is at a loss. She struggles to discipline her 'out of control' 6 year-old, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), a son she finds impossible to love. Samuel's dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called 'The Babadook' turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he's been dreaming about. His hallucinations spiral out of control, he becomes more unpredictable and violent. Amelia, genuinely frightened by her son's behaviour, is forced to medicate him. But when Amelia begins to see glimpses of a sinister presence all around her, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may be real.

Enjoy the second trailer and let us know if you're exited to meet The Babadook. I know we are. Maybe he'll even visit you tonight when you're trying to fall asleep? Fingers crossed!

'Defiance' Recap: 'Painted From Memory'

Courtesy Syfy
BY DAWN FEAKES

Last week, "Defiance" brought us the rescue of Kenya Rosewater, the calling of the metallic undead to Irzu/Irisa and Datak and Stahma reconnecting. Let's do this.

Hey Kenya, welcome home darlin' now how about a nice long interrogation. Nolan needs answers, dammit but she can only recall bits and pieces. Mostly, Goggles wanted to know about Amanda. Ah, the side braid works its magic once again. Doc tries to intercede but Nolan isn't buying any of it. Oh, you can accept a demon-god thing co-habitating in your daughter's body but the miracle return of your sometimes-girlfriend's sister is beyond comprehension. Got it.

Stahma heads to the Need/Want for the weekly payment but oh, Treasure Doll gave it to Alak. How enterprising of him. Stahma is clearly overjoyed a prostitute is working for her son. Oh hon, your day's about to get a whole lot worse because guess who's back in town? I'd say that Stahma turned white as a ghost but that isn't saying much. The old gal can move fast though, I'll give her that much. It's weird, Kenya's happy to be home but it doesn't feel...real.
